I am purchasing an American Bulldog puppy from a breeder and was told by the breeder that the puppy I liked the most has an underbite. She is the only puppy in the litter that has an underbite. Is an underbite common in this breed? Should I pick another puppy?
a slight underbite at 8 to 10 weeks can become a very undershot bite by the time a dog is full grown. The lower jaw tends to continue growing after the upper jaw has finished which makes an under bite more extreme. This is not too big a problem unless the upper teeth cause problems with gum irritation or if the dog has trouble eating because there is so little contact between the teeth in the upper and lower jaws.
