I am having alot of trouble getting my 4 mo old puppy to walk on a leash. He is fine once he gets outside he walks just fine, getting him out is a whole different problem. I put the leash on him and say go outside but he sits down and wont move at all. If i can get him through the front door hes fine but u have to just about drag him to get him out. What will work?
Hehe! I'm laughing with you, not at you! My dog Manson did the same thing when he was a puppy. He belonged to my friend then, and her neighbors would laugh at him. He'd flop over and refuse to walk. One thing that helps is to keep the leash on him, dragging, even in the house. (Not when he's in his crate, though, strangulation hazard)
If it's any consolation, Manson has grown up to be the best onleash walker.. walks directly at my side, keeps my pace, stops when I stop. He's impressive if I say so myself!

agree with knaber. use a treat. lead the dog out with a treat. you know how pups follow a treat when they see one? just be patient. it'll eventually go out. other way to do it is get his favorite toy and let it sit a few inches out of the door. OR you can just lift him and bring him outside, praising him as you step out.
Try making the lead up to the walk fun. He may not like how the leash is put on or something that happens before you go out. The treat is a good idea to get him to go out. I would try doing this many times in a row until he gets over it (it also helps to do this when hes hungry)
Make sure putting the leash on and everything leading up to the walk is not stressful for him. Put the leash on when hes calm, don't put the leash on if hes scared or hesitant. Put the leash on then praise him and make sure hes comfortable before you walk out the door. And when you do walk out be confident and he will learn to follow and trust you.
