I have a 10 old male weiner dog and he slipped on the steps this morning. Since then he has very little movement in his back legs and is having a hard time walking when he tries. I live in the country and the vet will not be in town until Monday afternoon. Can I give him ALEVE for the inflammation and pain? I have researched pain meds in dogs and everything is telling me NSAIDS are safe to give dogs. Does anyone have any insite to share. If I can get until Monday all will be good but my poor boy is in alot of pain!
Hopefully not too late. NO, NO, NO....do not give your dog Aleve!
No Ibuprofen NO Tylenol, etc. The only thing safe for use in your dog is aspirin....regular aspirin or baby aspirin, however, the proper dose will need to be gotten by your vet so you do not overdose him/her.
People are like slinky's, not really good for much. But its still fun to push them down the stairs.
I would search for a different vet clinic, with emergency vets. It sounds like he's hurt his back, and is probably in a lot of pain.If you can't take him, get the vet from the other clinic to prescribe something from the local pharmacy. Good luck with him.
