i have a almost 2 year old miniture poodle.(pure bred) he pees and pooops all over my home. its very unsanitary and gross. its embarasing when people come over because you never know what you might step in!
what should i get or do to stop this. ( i also have a terrier mix who goes to the bathroom outside.)
I have found that the best way to control unwanted indoor bathroom habits is to feed your dog on a schedule, usually twice a day. Put the food down and after 15 minutes pick it up. If you have been allowing free feeding don't worry after one missed meal they will figure out to eat when the food is put down...dogs can miss a meal without a problem...it is not mean....I promise...it is much meaner to be angry at their indoor bathroom habit. My guess is that you also eat meals on somewhat of a schedule and don't just graze all day. Then also schedule your times outside..at least 6 maybe 8 times a day until the problem is solved. By feeding on a schedule you will have some idea when he/she needs to eliminate. Most dogs will eliminate shortly after eating...some would rather eliminate before eating...you will figure this out by watching their behavior. You might have to pick up his water after 8 or 9PM until he understand & gets the message not to potty indoors. Dogs usually get very quite and suddenly leave the area to bathroom away from the activity. Watch carefully and keep them near you at all times until he gets the message about not using the house as a bathroom. If you find them going potty inside pick them up in the act...they will stop immediately and carry them outside to their bathroom place....and tell them 'go potty outside'...you only have about 3 seconds after they go...they really don't understand why you are angry and mad at them after that amount of time. They just don't understand; they just know that you are angry and will act sad but really don't know how to connect your anger with their potty behavior. Good luck with scheduling his food, water and times outside until he has the behavior you desire well established. Also you might want to go to a pet store and get a product that will eliminate the smells that are left behind after they potty inside. Dog can smell much better than us humans and if their is a scent left behind they often will go back to that spot to eliminate again.
