is it fine to breed my female dachshund again? she had one litter no problems no dead puppy's, she just got very thin. but now she's all back to her right weight its been a year n a half it'll be 2 if or when we breed her again. thanx!!! love ya, jason
The choice to breed is up to you. Most ethical breeders skip a heat in between breedings. If she got so thin it took a year and a half to get back to her normal weight, you did something really, really wrong. I have been a breeder for almost 15yrs, and I have never had a bitch lose so much weight it took her a while to get it back. you might want to just spay your girl, love her for who she is, and leave the breeding to the people who know what they are doing.
How do you pay medical bills when they come up, or if a bitch is in distress and requires a c-section being 13 according to your other post? Do you have a contract to sell your dogs? Don't think I'd trust a 13 year old who claims they are a small time breeder.

JayJay, she's just coming to the right age to be bred for the first time. Have you had her eyes and hips tested, and is there anything else that runs in your dog's breed, that you should know about? A bitch should never get as thin as you mentioned, especially if it took a good year for her to put the weight back on. Have you wormed her? Please do some research before you breed this dog. Personally I would'nt do it.
I would have to sugget not to bred her again at this point. Her weight should not have takn a year or better to come back. Her weight should not have gotten as low as you describe due to pups either if she was getting proper nutrition. Have a complete health check, and her teting done before considering breeding again.
What food was she being fed during the pregnancy and whelping?
People are like slinky's, not really good for much. But its still fun to push them down the stairs.
