And it's doing fine and everything, I love it! It's a dachshund/mix and a male
But the thing is, it also got neutered, yesterday to be exact, and today, I've been seeing it lick it's wee wee place where it got surgery, and was wondering if it's ok for it to be licking it.(The animal shelter didn't give it that cone collar thingie) And the animal place also said don't let the dog go outside for a week because it may get infected,
But my dad took it out for it to pee for awhile, and it peed ALOT, it was almost peeing for about a minute, but that may be because it's been inside since the morning (Let it out 5ish), so I was just wondering if its ok for it to lick or go outside to just pee and poop.
ALso, I've read that dachshund shouldn't jump, what's the meaning of jump? Like the front paws on your pants or it literally jumping, because I've never seen a dog jump up and down.
First of all, congrats on your new family member! And no, it is not a good idea to let him lick himself. He could possibly rip a stitch or not allow his wounds to heal quickly and/or properly. Try to discourage him from this behaviour, and if it really persists you may have to get a cone for him. About the jumping question, I have heard that you should not encourage a dachshund to jump up and down off furniture and stuff like that. I believe it is because of their long spines and discs being displaced easily. I am sure someone on here is more familier with the breed and could answer better than I, but I hope that info will help. Take care of your new little guy!
