I have a 3 year old female Abyssinian and I'm looking to get another kitten. Would it be better to get another female so they get along better or does it matter? I heard males are more loving. Is this true?
I have also heard that males are more loving. But personally I prefer females. I have 4 female Persians and they are all very loving and they all get along very well with each other. Since yours is already 3 years old, she may not appreciate a new feline family member right away whether it is male or female. So really the adjustment period will take time regardless of what you get. My sister has a male and female brother and sister that she got at the same time from a shelter. The male gets into much more trouble like counter surfing, litter scattering and plant eating. But that may just be his personality. The female doesn't do anything bad.
I have to males and 1 female. And the one male is still only a kitten. In my opionion the males are way more mellow and camler. But, I wouldn't say more loving. The females to me are more loving. They are just more springy and always moving. Good Luck with new kitten!
I have two females and one male. My male is very loving all the time and the females only are loving when they feel like it. I had some outside cats a long time ago too and found that to be the same with them as well male more friendly, female touch me not unless I come to you. I'm sure it depends on the cat.
you are probably right, it probably depends on the cat. My male is a lot more cuddly than the female. He's always up for a cuddle and she only is on her terms.
It has been my experience that when introducing a new cat to another cat's turf, it always seems to go smoother if the add-on is the opposite gender of the original human-owner. It has always seemed to me that the same genders end up going through more posturing and turf wars. But thats just based on my experience. I don't think gender matters as much as how you introduce your new furball.
Enjoy your new fur-baby!
I like most cats better than I like most people. I'll try to be nicer if you try to be smarter.
