Cookie is a 9 weeks old now :) She turns a new week every Saturday. They grow up so fast LOL Thanks for all the compliments on my puppy. We are taking her in next Monday to get her first grooming done, but it will be just a trim and bath with her nails done, I love her teddy bear look, so I don't want them to make her look funny. :)
I can't seem to get Cookie to sleep past 6:00 in the morning, any suggestions? Since I am a teen I normally do like to sleep in later than that, at least until 7:00 or 8:00am. She cries in her crate for a while and we normally ignore it if it is during the day.
Another question I have is when I walk her on the leash sometimes she will just sit down and refuse to move and I don't want to drag her, but I have tried coaxing her with treats, and that doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Awwww she is cute. I still think she is an apricot It is just my opinion that those other clips are what makes the poodle. Takes the guessing out for the most part when strangers will ask you what breed she is. You don't have to put her in a show continental clip or anything like that, but a nice clean face will cut down on staining etc. All the puppy cut is, is the feet are shaved to show off those wonderful poodle paws, the base of the tail the face and throat to show off those beautiful poodle features. There is a cute little face hiding under all that! Trust me, I know what I am talking about here. I kept my poodle in the teddy bear for years and by the time I wanted to groom him, he HATES clippers. I have to scissor him 100%. Takes about 10 years I could have never guessed how beautiful he was under all that coat.
As long as they are experienced groomers with hands on experience with poodles, I don't think they would make her look dumb. Plus it would get her used to the clippers if you do decide to change your mind down the road.
I would just Google leash training puppies or search for it here. Good luck.
As far as the crate, does she have a quiet room she can chill out in? Stuffed Kongs Or have you possibly thought of crate covers?

For her first groom it would be best to just get the bath, trim around her eyes, etc. Tell the groomer to introduce her to the clipper... turn it on and just move it up and down her back so she's used to the feeling. Doing a full haircut on a puppy the first time is very very stressful.
But after that I agree with pope. She'd look adorable with a clean face. Or maybe even leave her with a little mustache. You can do all types of mustaches too.
Pope1982, We have this leaopard dog cage cover over her crate, it has the wall cushions so she is comfortable and it also has a mattress in it, it is really cute. One thing I read about miniature poodles is that they really love to be with their family all the time, and as much as I wish I could take her everywhere with me, their are some places that just don't allow dogs :( I have a pink puppy kong for her, and we also have the red traditional kong for her, I do stuff them with treats but Cookie isn't much of an eater, she will accept treats, I just think it is because she has so much energy that she constantly wants to be moving, she is a funny puppy. We have a couple food bowls around the house and outdoors, so she doesn't forget to eat, it has worked so far, I just don't know if she is eating 1/2 a cup per day. You all are right though, she would look cute with a puppy cut, and we do have a groomers appointment set for her on Monday, and she will get a trim, bath and her nails trimmed, so it should be pretty easy for her. I am still afraid to give her the puppy clip, I am totally wimping out, and everyone always says she looks so cute and they say don't cut her hair. This is a hard choice! LOL
HEHE,POPE, you are right, she does look like and apricot! The breeder has bred poodles for many many years, and she said she was silver beige, but I did look up silver beige examples and it looked darker, they said the dog would have to be born a darkish brown. On her AKC papers she is listed as a silver beige, the breeder said her coloring is a difficult one to name, since she could become an cream, she could be silver beige, or she said she could possible be an apricot, but our breeder showed us Cookies silverish or creamish tips on the ends of her hair and she said that is why she thinks Cookie will be a silver beige. But she could be an apricot, sometimes in her picture it makes her appear red. Cookies dad is redish and his pedigree fmaily background shows most of the fathers families as red jeans, and Cookies mother is a silver beige/ I think white or apricot parti. Cookies mom has white and red as her family color backround.
