I usually avoid political posts however....I live in Ohio..I blame the media...how many times do you watch the news only to hear about another pit bull attack...I realize there are good animals out there getting a bad name...The media doesn't do stories on the cute pit bull that loves to snuggle with its momma....no all they report are the idiots that think it is funny to raise animals to fight one another...Yes the legistation must pass the rules...but, you wouldn't have so many irrate people if the media would stop the senseless reports...You never hear about the terrior that snapped at a kids ankle, or the lab that was playing and bit another...(not picking on any one breed of dog..I own a lab)...I am just trying to make a point. Report on the news all around....not just the negative stories...
The sad thing is so many bad people own this breed, that people don't know what a properly bred APBT is about. A properly bred APBT would never bark or try to bite a person ever..... They are the kind of breed that would help you steal the whole house, while the owners were gone. They are one of the happest breeds (towards people). All the public sees the the gang banger with dogs on big chains. Or the dogs they see fighting on tv..
Properly bred has nothing to do with what the new owner trains them to do. If you take a properly bred apbt and put it the hands of an irresponsible owner who trains it to be aggressive then the proper breeding just went out the door. Some people think they have an apbt and dont just like the media sees an apbt type dog and goes to town with the headlines "Pit Bull Attack" low and behold it usually is not even a pit bull but now in the public eye here we go again another pit bull attack.
imunique...i agree with you. I am so sick of the media making a mountain out of a mole hill...they blow things way out of proportion and makes people react...It is really sad. I agree with the raising part...you can have the most docile breed and add an abusive owner and now you have a mean dog....I think they should chain those people up and beat them...ha ha..ok so maybe that won't help, but sounds good..
OMG! That is totally rediculous! I have been raised around pitbulls my whole life and they are the kindest gentlest dogs in the dog kingdom. Its funny they dont mention how many chi, and doxis have bitten people. I work in the vet industry and never have I ever been bitten by a pitbull. I always am bitten by the smaller dogs. How can they call this the land of the free when they take away the family dog? I really hope to god someone in congress realizes the stupidity in the laws against these awesome dogs! I have 2 of my own and if anyone ever tried to come on my property and take them away I would shoot them like they would the dogs!
Hi, this post is over 2yrs old, and unfortunatly pits are banned in many places, and put down.
I agree with you, as a dog groomer I have been bit by more lhasa's, wheaton terriers, and chows. Never a pit. Maybe bruised to death by a happy wagging tail lol. The problem is one pit bite can kill, or do great dammage. A small dog doesn't. I feel chows should be banned, as I have been bitten by everyone I ever groomed. I think it is totally unfair to single out one breed and call them bad. Dobies, rotties, and german shepherds went through this years ago. Now pits, what is next???
Where I live (Norway), Pit Bulls have been illegal for about 20 years now, but they never killed any. If you owned one before the law was confirmed(?) you could keep it. I can't see why it would be necessary to kill all the Pit Bulls.
I AM A DOG LOVER AND A GUN NUT ANY PIECE OF S?*T TRY THAT WITH ME AND MY AMERICAN BULLDOGS CAN COUNT ON ME FIGHTING BACK WITH FORCE THATS A FACT THAT IS SO INSANE AND I DID CALL AND TELL THEM THAT EXACTLY
I am so sick of our government telling us who or what we can have in our lifes as friends. My Grand-puppy is a Pit and he is so sweet with my 10 month old Grand-daughter. Other then his tail (LOL) he is soft and loving with her. I feel that all owners and supporters of the breed should bring their loving dogs to the court houses and have a sit in.
Very sad time in our country indeed. There are alot of 'pitbull' attacks on the news in my area too (in Ohio) most times the dog is not even shown. The times they are, more likely then not...it is NOT a pitty! They see anything with a blocky like head and its automatically a pitbull...jerks.
I gurantee you there are more bites from Chihuahua's then pitty's but since they cant cause as much damage being so small, they dont get the media coverage. I have a Dobe, and have ran into more stereotyping than you can imagine since I have had her. Thankfully she is a shining example of what a Dobe should be and is quite the gentle lady....as long as you dont try to hurt our son! Thats my girl!
