Lately Cookie has been nipping at us and chewing on many things, I was just wondering if this is normal and if she is only teething. Overall she is a very sweet puppy and pretty good most the time.
The breeder also mentioned to us that at 4 months she will start losing hair and getting her new coat and that she will start losing her baby teeth, I was wondering how long does this normally last for, and does this mean she will be biting us alot, and if so how do we stop her from doing so.
I was also wondering that when she is 4 months old and loses her coat, does her new fur color change and will she still have her adorable white skunk stripe on her chest and her white star on her head.
Please tell me all about teething and what to do to teach her not to bite to hard, normally it is just a play bite, but sometimes she does it a little to hard, my hand was already used as a chew toy by her, and I would like her to understand the difference between a toy and my hands.
Thanks for any info
Someone did mention in a previous post that it is better to get your puppy at 12 weeks than at 8 weeks, because then the momma dog gets a chance to teach the puppies not to bite.
The teething and losing teeth will happen for quite a few more months now. Some dogs are still at it at a year old...which is fun when they seek and destroy things like a brand new lap top charger cord the moment you slack off and ease up on the puppy proofing
The beloved stripe and white spot will probably become less noticeable as her coat lightens, it will blend. Another interesting fact is that in the show ring regarding our breed, those marking are actually considered undesirable flaws. http://www.akc.org/breeds/poodle/index.cfm
I am going to go through your recent posts to see if I have missed any recent pictures you posted of Cookie, I've not been around as much as I'd like to
WOW, Thanks for all the information pope1982, I appreciate it. I learned alot from that article, I had no idea that I should not allow Cookie to play with peoples hair and clothes, thats good to know. I also didn't know that the AKC didn't like markings on poodles, but that is sad that her markings will become lighter as her hair lightens with it :( I love her hair color now, I wish it would never lighten up, since she looks like a little cuddly teddy bear, it is so cute. Thanks again for all the information, it was very helpful to me.
