For those of you that know, back in September, we had a house fire. We lost our beloved cockatiels in that fire. Well all my kids wanted was there cockatiels again! Especially my 5 year old, his was prince and he just LOVED his cockatiel.
Well when we got moved back in our house in March, I told the kids I would buy them another one. Well a good friend of mine works with alot of rescue type birds and she knew of someone that needed to rehome her birds. Well I went to go look at them and the lady told me that the 2 that she had were MALES, ( I think she just wanted to make a sale, since I was insistant on having 2 males)
Well within a week or 2 of having them home, the started mating, I was like OH NO. Well I went ahead and put a nest box in there, so that we could keep 2 of the babies. We are going to sell the parents since they are breeders. I knew that when I picked them up, they were not the friendliest, but I just thought maybe because they hadn't been handled. Well now I know why!! So anyway, Last night we had our first baby hatch, and this morning the other one hatched! We are waiting on 2 more eggs to hatch. I know that one of them is fertile and should hatch ( I hear the piping in the egg) The other one is fertile, but I don't hear anything yet which doesn't mean a whole lot until they get ready to hatch)
I am a bit nervous though as the parents have not fed them yet. But Marty said to give them until noon, to see if their crops are full, if not then I will have to hand feed. She said I could hand feed and see if the mom and dad catch on. I DO NOT WANT TO HANDFEED this early!!
The parents have done a great job caring for them. The babies are growning fast and are getting new feathers in. Is there anything that we should be feeding them? This new to us any info would be much appreciated.
