My laptop just crashed for the third time! I haven't even had it a year. There were problems before it even shipped to me and I should have taken that as a sign. Has anyone had similar experiences? I'm looking into returning it. I'm ready to pull my hair out. I paid almost $2,000 and ordered straight from the company b/c I wanted to prevent the very problems I'm having now. It's soooo frustating!
What operating system do you have, how much RAM, what kind of video card? What exactly are you doing on the computer when it crashes, and what is the computer doing when it crashes? Does it freeze? Does it restart randomly? Do you get a 'blue screen of death' that lists a bunch of gibberish type numbers?
Never trust a tall dwarf... he's lying about something.
My husband drives and 18 wheeler for a living, and he had a dell for years. It burned up when our personal truck caught fire on his way home one night. We never had a problem with it, but I dont ever buy from the company. I know a computer geek who sells used laptops to truck drivers. He completely checks them out, and gives them a new hard drive. We have bought 4 from him, and they were all great. Sorry about your bad luck
OK well here's the deal with dells they have such a great rep because of all there marketing and everyone says there good because they think they are..truth be told they're not. they have many glitches and they have to be repaired quite frequently. now all systems have glitches Ive noticed that dells vios and emachines are filled with glitches, hp and vista are also programs filled with glitches. so if your gonna go find a computer it's well worth it to stay away from those programs and computer brands. try to stay with the computer brands you don't see all over the internet and TV.
it's like dog food, the worst dog food brands you can buy are the ones advertised excessively because then there just spending too much time and money on there advertising instead of making sure there dog foods are the best they can be and healthiest for dogs.
also here's a lesson on internet safety there are a lot of programs out there that you could be hooked on like IMing your friends or myspace or face book. but be careful because they are filled with viruses and is very easy to be hacked threw, msn is a big one which carries BOT viruses (viruses that have a mind of there own almost. they send them self to everyone on your friends list and doesn't stop even if you log out they will send themselves as soon as you get online) so never ever save anything or download files unless you absolutely know what's going on and who it's coming from. myspace is a hackers dream there is something called a phisher its a fake myspace log in where they get your password and can spam everywhere on your myspace or even worse get your IP address...which that's a diff story..anyways be careful always download a powerful fire wall and virus protection. oh and also use firefox internet instead of the regular "E" looking thing because firefox doesn't store everywhere you've been and doesn't store your IP adress.
i know im a nerd but it helps to know about the computers and which to buy, rather then just buying a crapy one and having to spend hundreds on it to fix it.
if there's any other Q's or anything about internets or computers just send me a PM ill be more then happy to elaborate for you
Sorry to hear you're having so many problems... I don't have any advice as for fixing it, but I'd be inclined to think that it's that individual computer, not necessarily a Dell problem.
I have had my dell desktop for at least 5 years, no problem at all. My husband has had his Dell desktop for about a year less than mine. He also has a Dell laptop for work. We have not had any problems (knock on wood) at all with any of them. Well, I take that back - his first laptop (work) had to be "exchanged" after 6 years for a new one, because he had too much info on it, and it was just bogged down. They replaced it with a computer with more memory, and it's great!
Have you contacted Dell and had them repair it? It should be under a warranty period. You may have to pay for shipping, but it would be worth it to not have the headache of it crashing over and over! Best of luck!
Thank you guys. The situation is frustating and hearing from everyone helped. Pinkygirl, thank you for all the info. If and when I get my laptop working I will put it to good use. The computer is at the repair shop right now. Hopefully the will be able to fix it quickly with out charging me an arm and leg. Techs from India and a girl with a West Texas accent aren't a good mix. I just end up more frustrated. I think the problem is a combination of Dell growing so fast the had to cut back on quality and Window Vista. I bought straight from dell b/c I thought I would get the most for my buck. I know I would have saved money if I had gone to an actual store and I probably would have gotten an equal if not better product.
well it all pretty much depends on your computer and it's settings and what kind of downloads you have to protect your personal info adn protect yourself from viruses from the internet. like it or not there is people out there that will give you viruses just to be a pain in the behind, so you always need to be protected.
ive never herd of anyone having their computer crash for no reason and never being on the internet, so she must be using the internet and not protecting herself from viruses and things like that, so what she needs to do is upgraid to a better Email with more security or invest in getting a better internet protection package...
what ever the reason it's definatly not good if her computer is crashing, maybe she as got the beast virus
The repair guy says my hard drive is "dead" and there is nothing he can do except order a new one. It's still under warranty so I will be ordering a new one from dell myself. I have to say I kind of resent the post which completely put the blame on me. Yes I used the internet progam that Dell included with my computer and I used protection progam that Dell included. I stressed to the sells rep when I ordered it that I wanted to be protected. I'm sorry I didn't automatically know everything you do. I was impressed with and grateful for your advice, until you started belittling me.
Okay, so I just got through chatting with a Dell support tech. Long story short I should have a new hard drive in "2-3 business days." I had to got through the whole trouble shooting process, which took a good hour or so. I mentioned in my fist contact that my HDD was dead and only wanted to know about getting a new one. I figured I'd have to send the old one back, fortunately that's not the case. I didn't mention that I just picked it up from the repair shop b/c I didn't want to cause any warranty problems. I'm still a little PO'd about the problems, but they are taking care of it. I would definately recommend that anyone with dell problems use the chat feature. It was so nice not having to ask someone to repeat every other sentence. It was nice not having to repeat myself as well.
Speaking of laptop problems, some of the keys popped off of mine and I cannot get the gosh-darn things back on!!!! GRRRRR!
Any pointers? there's this little two-piece plastic bracket that goes together and then holds the key onto the board. I've tried putting the bracket on the board and then putting the key on, I've tried putting the key on the bracket and then attatching it to the board, but I just cant get it!!! HELP!
I like most cats better than I like most people. I'll try to be nicer if you try to be smarter.
Are you able to boot up your system and operate normally? If you cannot, rather than spend all that money replacing the hard drive; replace the computer with an HP or anything other than Dell. I have just heard too many negative things lately!
Thank you for the advice! This laptop is not quite a year old and still under warranty so the new hard drive cost me nothing. So far every things fine (knock on wood). Knowing what I know now, I doubt I will ever buy another dell.
I bought a Dell laptop a few years back. The first one had some issue, for which they wanted to do repairs on it. I told them hell no..if its having issues less than a week after I got it, I don't want to know what goes wrong with it after I've had it a year and no longer under warranty. So, I got a new one for free. I gave that to my bro, who still uses it. I bought a Mac, which I hated and sold on ebay. Now I have a Sony Vaio Laptop. I love it! Had it over two years...its now showing some signs of wear, but works better than most computers that age. My old work laptop was an IBM, that was crap!
Even if you are on the right track, you will still get run over if you just sit there. (Will Rogers)
Heck my 7 year old Mac works better than most 2 your old windows based crap, mostly because windows is crap. It is an energy hogging POS operating system, Bill was just better at brain washing the masses than Steve.
Nope my "stupid mac" has bluetooth, so I dont have to plug cards into it, most of my gadgets just talk to it remotely. You what they say "it isnt the machine it is the user"
And my mac also has Windows on it, I just dont use it ever.
Oh ya I dont own anything that uses the sony magic stick except for the PSP, and that is POS. Most everything we have uses SD cards. But my HP has a slot that fits any memory card except a Compact Flash.
