Hi , I have 2 kittens, one male and one female about 8 months old. We also have an adult male cat 3 years old. I keep telling my fiance we need to get them to the vet asap because I know they are going to want to try and reproduce. It's strange ecause they grew up together, I see no signs of that happening. The female has a crush on the older male cat, always has, and the boy kitty sniffs her but then nothing, all 3 play and wrestle around, no funny stuff yet. I am wondering if this is abnormal. At what age should I do this. We are saving money to do this. Thanks!

I would get at least one of them done ASAP! She can go in to heat any time now. He will not show an interest until she is in heat but if he notices before you do, it's too late. It is cheaper to neuter a male than to spay a female. If you can only afford one, I would do the boy now and continue to save money for the female. The best thing would be to spay her right away, but if you don't have the money, start with him. I am not sure where you are from, but in CT, the vet at the Humane Society offers really inexpensive spay/neuter. Many states have mobile clinics. Check with places like Petco or Petsmart to see if they offer any low cost clinics.

If neither of your boy cats is neutered, it'd probably be cheaper to have the female spayed than having both of the boys neutered. THe money for spaying/neutering should have been budgeted from the day you decided to get the cats, honestly. Search around and see if you can find a vet to do low cost spay/neutering, usually your local humane society can offer some advice on where to go.

thanks , the older cat is taken care of. Im looking online for places that will do this. I thought it was strange that they dont display any other type of affection for each other rather than friendly but its because she isnt in heat yet. I will be getting them both fixed soon. Thanks everyone.
