My first Chihuahua, she is just about 4 months still only weighing 1 1/2 lbs she is a short haired breed her parents both weighed 5 and 6lbs. I have noticed she is doing some changing, ears r finally propping up, and now her skin color is changing as well and thinning and losing hair in some spots. If it could be something like manage wouldnt my other dogs get it as well or is this something that is commin in this breed. Oh and her skull still has not closed she still has her soft spot..Any advice for this breed. Any would help...Thanks
her hair lose is on her sides and shoulders, she has a vet appointment next week, I live in the middle of no-where land it takes an hour to get to the nearst vet so making appointments have to be planned..her skin is a just starting to get a bit dry but her coat color is changing right along with her skin as well, she see the vet all ready once a month with her being so little making sure her heatlh is in good shape and so far so good. Is this somthing that is typical in chi's?? Thanks
Hi there, I really don't know alot about chi's, and personally i don't like the breed (SORRY). My mom has one. I am glad that you have made an appointment for you pup at the vet. Hopefully he/she can find you an answer and get it all cleared up for you.
is she eating well and what is her diet made of? maybe she isn't getting all the nutrients her body needs. i have a long haired Chihuahua and for the first year i was always worried that he wasn't eating enough. the tiny dogs often don't have much of an appetite. at four months she should be losing baby teeth which can cause problems , have you checked her mouth to see if the adult teeth are starting to come thru? is she scratching or have dry skin? could be an allergy causing hair loss.
tell me how the vet visit goes. all the things i was gonna say have been named off. but is there something your using on your carpets or anything around the area of the puppy? like carpet cleaner or anything of that sort?
sometimes it could be a reaction from that and it can cause some hair loss. so when you get to the vet ask him about that and what ever your using (if you are)
also look outside and see if there's anything out there he/she can roll in and get that hair loss from.
Thanks for the replies, All of her teeth are in place and she does eat well, her coat color well she was like a blonde with some black but she seems to be changing to a red in some areas, her skin is very dry but she doesnt scatch much. She is well watched outside with such a large yard we have to with her being so little. I have been putting stuff on my carpets so that maybe!! My husband tells me how ugle she is with her hair missing haha! I have bathed her with Sulf OxyDex (from the vet for my older dog)to see if that would help but it doesnt seem to help any.. I feel so bad for her i cant pet her with out more hair coming out.. Thanks Again!!!
Each case is different, I would have yours checked by the vet as well. Ask for a skin scraping to be done. It could be anything from one of the types of mange to alopecia, enviromental llergy, food allergy, etc. A vet is your best route.
That is so weird i have a 4 1/2 to 5 month old chi. but shes losing hair right on the top of her forhead. she also still has her soft spot, she is the runt of the litter so i dont know if thats the reason she still has that but she is having the same problem. but the even wierder thing is that my grandmother has her litter mate and she has it too, she is alot bigger and doesnt have her soft spot but she is loosing her hair all down the sides of her, and also in random spots. so i was wondering what the vet said. i have tried bathing her in different shampoos and it doesnt seem to help.
I have plantar fasciitis and these shoes help a lot. I still have some heal pain but it's not terrible. They are not strange to get used and Orthofeet serve their purpose well. I didn't have to put in any other arch support insole to help with my plantar fasciitis. I was impressed!!!
