I just noticed my MinPin was limping a little holding her leg in the air. And then I noticed her licking her paw. So I checked her out and her nail is ripped off all the way, there is no nail left at all. Its not bleeding so I guess she must have did this outside and did it all out there. Can I put people antibiotic ointment on it? I can clean it and keep it bandaged up. There really isnt much the vet can do for it but take my $50 that I dont have. So what can I do for her at home?
there is a liquid bandage product that can be brushed or sprayed on the area. this will seal it and keep it clean very few animals will leave a bandage on as their instinct is to lick the area to speed healing
if it's not bleeding then that's a good thing. try to keep him/her off of it for as long as porrible. like someone else stated there is a "liquid bandage" you can find it in pretty much any store and it's water proof but kinda like super glue so it sticks to the hair. so when you put the bandage try to push away all of the hair and apply it keep all the hair away until it fully drys. other wise it'll be unconfertable for the dog and he/she may try to chew on tht toe and cause infection.
most home made bandages dont work at all and come of within a few min so they are pointless. so all you can really do is try the liquid bandage and hope it works other wise your gonna have an infection on your hands.
get them to the vet when you have the money and have them take a look at it. just in case.
I agree with the other 2 posters, a liquid or spray bandage would be the best course of action. For future suggestion, I would not use antibacterial soap on a wound of any kind. It is safe to use ointment, but soap would sting and be very irritating to your dog. They have a product on the market for washing wounds without stinging. I believe its Band Aid brand. That would be a better alternative to soap.
