Hi, I need help !! I have a cocker Spanial who has terrible skin problems. He has some kind of "bumps" on him. Its something that gets in with his hair and makes little patches. When we give him a bath he is better for a couple of days , then its gets worse again. Is there anything I can do. I take him to the vet and he gives me animax to put on it. Iam not making any headway, what eles can be done? THANKS
Try another vet. If you tell your vet that the stuff isn't working, and he wont do anything else get another opinion. Maybe a skin scraping. Welcome to the wonderful world of cockers, they have the worst possible skin and ear problems. It sounds like somes sort of fungus (almost like rain rot in horses).
Our last cocker had such horrid skin infections we had to put her on a human anti organ rejection medication she would pull her hair out and chew herself raw or to bleeding........ nothing helped for long... actually I made her clothes to cover her, so she didn't bite and chew lick and scratch 24 hours a day she was the best dog but our sickest! an ultimately she died not of the comprimised immune system but fro an infection she chewed her self into...
it might be your dogs food it could be allergies our dog had a comprimised immune system she couldnt fight any thing and any thing she got that a regular dog might scratch occasionally from, was magnified a trillion times for her.... Despite all of this she was an amazing dog... lovng sweet never a growl out of her only love.
I dont know if this would work on your pet or not but we gave her benidril and calming pills ( a natural herb ) to relax her also we massaged her several times a day ( again to relax her ) we used pure emu oil on her also this helped some.... your dog could even have a staph infection under her skin try more than one vet ... or if your close to a animal hospital where they really know what they are dong ... try that. good luck .
My westie has the same things........i joined this just reply
Hi , Im new to this, nut our westie has terrible skin problems, and in the past ear we have spent over 2,000 dollars in vaccinations daily, or ones that every other day, it goe on and on. We just cannot continue to do this-spend this money and fee us as well. Do ya'll have any ideas, or has anyone had any problems similar?. We bathe hi 3 times a week with otmeal and then the leave on lotion from the vet .....Nothing. He is 4 and he as always had these problems antibotic helps, redinosone cleasr them up. I have been told if we keep his anal glands cleaned, or aqueezed twice week will work, but it sounds like vodoo vetanarian.. Anyway we have tried all foods zd , dd, everything. The vet gets kickback on everything they sell.
ANY HELP would be appreciated dave.. thanks from Bama
What kind of food are you giving him? There are certain brands that Cockers do not do well with and develop allergies to them. Also use a medicated shampoo for baths to help. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will see if I can help. Good luck!
