I am having a horrible time finding treats that my Danes will eat! I have a trainer that comes out 4 times a week to work with my puppies & my adults & my adult Danes WILL NOT eat anything that she is giving them. I dont know if it is because they are 'unsure' of her over ruleing them or if it is the treats she offers them. She comes to my house in the morning so I make sure they have not eaten so they will be hungry & want the treats but that still does no good. All of my Danes are on an all raw diet. I refuse to feed the 'store bought' treats. I just dont think they are good for my Danes plus they wont eat them anyway, I tried when nothing else would work. I have also tried: homemade liver treats (boiled with garlic powder & then dried in the oven) hot dogs canned lunchon meat Vienna weiners string cheese peanut butter crackers (puppies love them) braunswager jack mackerel patties I would love to hear what other raw feeder use as treats! It maybe just my Danes wont take anything from her. I may need to also add that I hand feed all my Danes twice a day which means NO BOWLS! They sure seem to like her, they listen to her very well. She is doing a great job with them. Any help would be great.
They're not RAW, but the smell is so strong and good, they smell like beef jerky. I can get my stubborn brat to do flips if I wanted for those.
Other than that, has your trainer considered that maybe your dogs are not food motivated? Sounds like if they are not interested in treats, maybe they're not. Some dogs just seek to please their owners, just like some people are motivated by money, others by praise, others internally. My Lhasa IS food motivated, however won't take some treats from strangers and he won't eat a treat in front of a stranger.
Even if you are on the right track, you will still get run over if you just sit there. (Will Rogers)
