Hi Everyone, My first post! I hope I do things right! So anyway. My dog Rocky, who is a pit bull boxer mix has lately been getting little bumps on his back. I would compare them to pimples, but they are hard little nubbins. On his stomach he has itchy red spots from his neck down past his groin. I can tell it bothers him cause he sits and scratches often. I have medicated shampoo that I have been using from a previous skin condition, that seems to work, but after several days the rash and bumps come back. I'm at a loss as to what it could be .I read that dogs aren't really prone to poison ivy, and neither I nor my family has gotten anything from petting him. But He doesnít have much hair, because its very short on top, and he has like peach fuzz underneath. I hate to see him suffer, but his activity level hasn't waned. Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this before, or has any ideas as to where I should turn. Or if I should just bring him to the vet again. Thanks for any responses!
have you taken him to the vet to have a skin scraping or anything like that done? It's possible he's allergic to something, detergent, grass, and youre seeing the effects. I doubt it's poison ivy (especially since it keeps recurring).
Never trust a tall dwarf... he's lying about something.
No haven't taken him to the vet yet. I called them, they said try the shampoo again and if it comes back give them a call next week. So I will be giving him a good tubby tonight. I just wanted to see if anyone had experienced this before.
I had a pit bull lab mix that did almost the same thing when he turned 1. The vet said that is when they start to show allergies. I changed his food (brand and meat), they gave him a cortozone (I know I butchered that )shot and after about 3 months, I think, the shot wore off, but the allergies didn't come back. The vet explained that he was itching from the inside out and on the stomach, feet, and face are where the reaction usually occurs in dogs. Hope this help. If you do change his food, do it gradually.
Update: Rocky went to the vet yesterday. They gave him the cortisone shot and the bumps were gone by this morning. He's on medication for 10 days, and if it comes back we are to call the vet and they will start a round of allergy testing. The vet said it could be a number of things that could be causing it, from eating a bee (ouch!) to an allergy to mosquito bites. So we shall see. Thanks so much for the responses. Canít wait to catch up on the boards!
