I have a 6 months old Yorkie, he has diaria for 3 days now, he was eating good the first 2 days, but I realized this morning that he only drink his water. The diaria is brown and slimy. Do any one have an idea what that could mean. I called the vet today, but since is a holiday they are not available and I will like to give him something until he gets to see the vet. I read about rice so I will give him that, but I have also read a couple of you mention pepto bismol and keopectate. I don't which one is best for him. Please help I am very concern. Thank for any suggestion you may have.
Take him to the emergency vet if you can, and ask if you can give him some pedialyte and a tiny bit of Karo syrup. Let him drink as much as he will, and try feeding him just plain cooked rice with a tiny bit of meat (what ever he has liked in the past). He could have just eaten something yucky outside, or he could have picked up Giardia, or Coccidiosis, but the vet will soon determine that.Is he up to date with his shots, and has he been wormed? If you give him something for an upset stomach, use a preparation that does not contain aspirin. Once again, I would phone the emergency vet, and check to see if these measures are appropriate for your dog. I hope he's feeling better soon.
We just had the same problem with our Yorkie last Mon. We had a little "pet" book that did recommend Pepto Bismol. It said 1 tablespoon up to 10 pounds, but I gave her only 1 teaspoon. It did the trick in one day. She is still a little listless, but it did help the diarrhea. But I think if your puppy has it for 3 days, some more immediate attention should be given. It's good water is being taken because you don't want to get dehydrated. Let us all know how your pup is doing.
