Last week I was at the grocery store and a young girl(13-15) was shopping with her family. The girl was wearing very short work out shorts with ARMY written across the seat. I didn't give much thought to it, until an older gentlemen(70s) in a scooter made a comment. I'm assuming that the older man was a veteran, but I don't know for sure. It was right in his line of view and I can definately see his point. Wearing the word ARMY across your butt is kind of disrespectful. I personally think wearing any wording over your but is tacky, but to each his own. I know there are members who are or have relatives in the military. Do you find that type of clothing offensive?

I think it is very tacky, and they should have a little respect for those who are fighting for our country. We all have our opinions, some people dont like tatoos, I can't stand anyone with pants down to their knees or things written across their tush.

short shorts on 13 year olds makes me wonder where the parents are. I wore boys jeans and shirts from the gap when i was 13.Is it just me, or do 13-16 year olds look older than those that are actually 20-25?

I think alot of people just jump to conclusions and want to point a finger.I see people wearing stuff that says ARMY on it all the time shirts,jackets,pants,shorts,hats I always just took it as they were supporting our troops. I also see ones that say NAVY and MARINES.A girl at my work has a purse that says ARMY SISTER with her brothers name on it. If the shorts were too short than thats a different reason to think they are inappropriate but just because they said ARMY on the butt doesnt mean she was being disrespectfull. All people dont think of it like that.Alot of shirts say things across the chest so should women only wear solid shirts because it my draw attention to the chest area? Did anyone ever think the girl might have been trying to be supportive? The old man shouldnt of been looking at the little girls butt and maybe he wouldnt have been offended. I guess you gotta be looking to even see it so who was the one being disrespectfull the girl supporting the troops or the old man checking out the little girls butt?

The old man was in a scooter, so her butt and everyone elses' was in his line of vision. Also, isn't the main reason for wearing something written across your butt, getting people to look at it. I see no problem with people wearing army clothing. I too see it as supporting the troops. I don't think the girl meant any disrespect, but when you think about it, that particular placement seems disrepectful.

Jr, I have to laugh at your post b/c I'm 23 and I think your average teenie dresses like a skank. One of the reasons I loved college was b/c people were there to learn and weren't desperate for attention from the opposite sex.

I feel it is disrepectful, becuase the only shorts I see with the stuff written across their butts are the extremly short ones. I don't have a problem with the other articles of clothing. I am fat, so I never even thought of wearing anything short or skimpy like that lol. I think it is crazy what is being made for young girls to wear now adays. You wear those kind of clothes, and wonder why you get treated like trash

It is one thing to wear whatever you want as an adult, but at 13 or so years, the skimpy look shouldn't even be allowed in school. But then again, kids are ending up pregnant at 16yrs, so what kind of country have we become anyway

well I dont know what kind of schools are around your area but around here they have a dress code and shorts have to be at fingertip length which is right around the knee area and no spagetti straps or strapless shirts so no the girls at local schools dont look like skanks.some people are proud of the way they look or simply dont care what other judgmental people think so they dress how they are comfortable. In the summer I wear a tank top and shorts everyday and I am extremely large in the chest area so no matter what shirt I wear they are noticable but I am not gonna run around in a turttle neck because of what someone else might think, I am gonna be comfortable.

I think wearing words on the butt is just a fashion statement. I do believe that she is supporting the Army even if the shorts were short. Yes, I can see the point on being on the butt...kind of a "kiss my butt" attitude on the Army...but I really think they just think it's a cool thing to wear to support them! If you go traveling, you'll always find shorts with a butt full of words. Cozumel, Puerto Vallerta...they all have the shorts with their signature!

It is unfortunate some of the things teens wear these days. I actually lived with my Aunt who was 49 and was dressing like she was 17. It was horrible and disgusting! When we tried telling her what she looked like, she just didn't want to listen.

Imunique-- I think you took my post the wrong way. Do you wear shirts with your boobs hanging out? Alot of teenagers to day would. I am just big, and I wear shorts, tank tops, jumpers whatever. But I am not going to wear a shirt with my boobs hanging out, or my butt hanging out of my shorts. I didn't mean you couldn't be comfortable.


The schools in my area don't really have much of a dress code, and when someone goes against it, they dont do much. No foul words on shirts, no strapless shirts, but the kids can wear skimpy tank tops and shorts.

Tacky? I think so. Immature? I think so too. Disrespectful? Not unless she meant it that way. Protected by the 1st Amendment? I believe so. Would I ever let my teenage daughter wear short shorts that say ANYTHING across the butt? Heck no. To each thier own. If it offends you, feel free to vent. Rant and rave if you want. Say that you think they are wrong. That is our right as Americans. But respect others' opinions enough to leave them be. The man in the scooter was most likely a veteran. He fought to give her the right to wear those shorts. And even if he thought it was disrespectful, I still bet he enjoyed the view.

A few years ago, I was involved with someone whose sister was in the army. When she would visit, she would bring her army-issued workout shorts to sleep in. They were really quite short, to the point that I would never have worn them. The shorts the girl had on may have been army-issued shorts passed onto her by a relative.

actually u can buy shorts like that with the preferred branch written on a military base. Because of that i wouldn't say it's disrespectful... on my base they are located in a navy pride store. I personally don't buy them because i don't want people staring at my butt as i run down the road but to each is their own i guess.

Nowadays i am not surprised at ANYTHING i see people wearing. I dont care what is written on the clothes, but please , if they dont cover you, why wear anything at all. If your boobs fall out the front or your butt cheeks fall out the back, then either cover it up or just go naked. And thongs used to be something you wore on your feet. Now they are "butt rubberbands". And when i see these girls walking around with their pants down to their butt cracks and their thongs exposed, i want to give them a swift kick. Back in my day, if i walked around with my butt crack exposed, my dad would have been right behind it with the paddle that i would have been up sh*t creek without...........

OMG Dusty! Once again, you have cracked me up.

As far as the shorts...I'm sure she probably meant no disrespect. Actually, she probably didn't even think what was strewn across her ass when she threw them on that morning. I think the only person she is disrespecting is herself. If that's what she feels her body is worth, that's just sad. I would hope she grows up and realizes that she has more to offer than a prostitute.

Isn't the ARMY logo copyrighted? If so, it was probably approved by the army. As anyone in advertising can tell you, the most important thing is location. You can have the greatest ads, but if your intended target does not see them, they are worthless.

putting the ARMY logo across the butt or boobs of a young hot chick, is a sure way of getting your logo noticed by young men. It may be for the wrong reasons, but it will get notices and subconsciously will be associated with the "good stuff". A brilliant subliminal "ad campaign" if you ask me.

I think Juno might be right about the copyright, but regardless the "fatigues" and logos are worn by people usually in support of the military. I don't think it's desrespectful.

The goverment does not copyright the emblems, colors, flags or any other of thier identifying markings. Any company can make military clothes without consent from the goverment.

The goverment is not in buisness to make money...at least when it comes to military appearal.

But what can happen is if the person is memeber of the military and wears something of this nature. they can be subject to the UCMJ and get charged with bringing discredit upon the armed services. Now in the military this is not like going to civilian court if the Commanding Officer says your guilty....you are.
