I adopted a chow almost 8 weeks ago (she is 2 yearsold). She is a dream!! But about a week ago she started having a problem walking on the leash. At first it was tugging way to hard on the leash when she heard a loud noise (fireworks being shot off in my neighborhood). Then it progressed into pulling away and refusing to walk in certain areas at certain times other times she is fine walking in the same area (ie the park across the street which she would not walk in at 5am this morning but had no problem at 9am). After dark she refuse to go out I literally have to drag her out the door and then she tries to run back in the house. She does not cry or whine as if she is scared.
I am not sure what to do..Any advice?

Aww, poor thing! She is probably just scared, not used to being on a leash. Just keep up with it. I took my puppy out on a leash every time, starting with the first time I brought him home (at 7 wks). I still bring him on leash over 1/2 the time (he's now about 14 weeks). Have you tried giving her treats after a few steps? Maybe having someone else there while you walk with her on leash (holding it tight enough so she knows she's on the leash) and get her to walk to them to get the treat. Just a thought, but she'll get used to it - have patience, and good luck!
I started my puppy on the leash inside the house. That way he could get used to it inside, before we went outside. He still pulls, but that's my fault for not correcting him. I have a Gentle Lead that is supposed to help with this issue, I just haven't put it to use. The Gentle Lead does calm him down inside, so I would think it would have the same effect walking him outside. Hang in and hold on! Lots of treats helped me with getting my dog to do what I want. Now he can almost read my mind! Good Luck!
