when i first came to this site there was many people on here constantly and we all posted constantly (im talking about a long time ago years ago) now i come back and there's not more then 20 new posts made here in one full day. i just wanted to know where everyone went? why isnt anyone posting? what happened to the good ole forum i used to know and love. mods you know when i say that it's changed, youve seen what i mean.
anyways im gonna be home full time now i have to stay home, no more work for pregnant ashley anymore. (girl by the way) so ill be on here more.
The forum's regular posters slow down with vacations and kids home from school, requiring more attention and time away from the computer. Some have out of town guests/family visiting that also requires more time away from the computer.
School's out, so bored kiddies eventually stumble across the forum and begin to play trollie spammers.
Things will pick back up once everyone returns from vacation and their children and guests get back to their normal routine.

thank goodness. yeah ive noticed that the kidos come on here and spam like crazy. the last time i was on here full time there was a kid that likes hannah montana or something and she kept spamming about it and kept maing new accounts to post replies to her threads. it was pretty pothidic. i got fusterated with it all really badly.
i hope the normal posters come back. anways ill be here full time now. sorry i was gone for so long i had alot on my plate latley. but im back now. so how has everyone been? anything happen major while i was gone?
Honestly, this place is just not as exciting as it used to be. Maybe it's the new format....I don't know. Also, I really just don't like a lot of the new topics - they're bland and repetitive. Maybe that's what happens, Ashley, when you're new it's all new but after you've been here a while it's just the same things over and over again so it doesn't hold a persons interest so much.
it's kinda shocking with what this sites become, i remember when there used to be people on all the time and they would post good quality posts. and now all i see is like 20 people online but no ones posting anything, not much of anythings happening.
I have to agree with PuggleBaby. I leave and come back every few months or so. Every time I come back, I can always count on at least one "you guys are so mean, I'm not ever gonna come back here" thread, a "Help, my dog is pregnant by accident, what do I do?" thread, a "my dog is seriously sick, what do I do?" thread, along with a "what breed is my dog" thread and a series of new trolls. Its very repetitive. On top of that, unlike some other forums I frequent, its virtually impossible to hold a decent, mature conversation without being attacked. This place was very helpful to me when I first got Merphy, and for that I am thankful. But like LMPB said, when you're new, its all new. When you're not new, its all old.

I have been here a few months and would have to agree that this site was more interesting the first couple of months. However, it continues to be helpful and I feel I have made "computer friends" here. I want to let some of you "old" member know that you are appreciate. Heather, I have enjoyed your post a lot since you have returned.
Could the quality of your posts have something to do with the over all content of the forums? Sort of a what you put in is what you get back? I find some of the posters have mature and sensible posts which bring common sense to the topics and others' comments are too quarelsome and childish to be anything but nuisances. All this does is increase the number of arguments instead of encouraging an educational discussion that woild be of benifit to all concerned.
i think it does have alot to do with the quality of the posts. when there's alot of information in them and if they are considerably longer it gives us something to talk about, questions to ask, comments to help inform others where they might be wrong or anything of that sort.
but when people put..."oh yes i agree" or something short like that there really isnt much for anyone to post on that. so it's pretty much a thread killer. and it's mainly the kids on the site who do that now a days. but there's nothing we can do about that. those one sentance posters are always gonna be there.
also ill tell you what really ticks me off about this site... when people come on this forum just to ask a stupid Q about there dog that they should have already tooken to the vet to recieve medical attention. or how about those posters who come on here only once and post something compleatly rediculous and then just leave, no more posts or anything from them. that's just annoying.
Hi Pinky...Welcome back. I am new to the forum. I have a 7 month old lab/rott mix and 2 cats. I think my problem is...right now I don't have any questions, nor do I have that much great advice to give. I just enjoy reading "most" of the posts. There are some I even roll my eyes at and I am no animal expert...I have been a member since January..I am really ready for the kids to go back to school and people to stop posting stupid stuff...(my dog is lethargic...what to do?) I really hope the content will improve as well...I do enjoy reading and occasionally asking for advice...
see now you aint one im talkin about, you read, and you post in nessesary. see but at least you post sometimes. that's a good thing, im talkin about all the kids who dont post anything productive and spam constantly, and the other members who do absolutly nothing at all.
I guess i am just a sucker for punishment. Sometimes when i feel like banging my head on the wall i come here and read. Then i read some of the off the wall crap on here and i go bang my head on the wall anyway. Its a no win situatuon. lol

Pinky- not all of the names you see are in the forum. It is not as if they come here and do nothing at all but it shows names when you log into your ad as well. Most of them people dont even use the forum they just advertise. Also I do think that some people google a question and it refers them here to a thread and they post a question and then dont even realize what site they were on to be able to come back.
Under the general topic I find a lot of humerous posts and some rediculous posts, with an occasional worthwhile post. In the breeder section I find a lot of good information, and some rediculous posts by people that seem to run their mouth with the brain out of gear. All in all, it is someplace to unwind at night just before bedtime. Please don't stop posting!
Quality is not expensive, it's priceless. I love blues!
I can't speak for everyone else, but my life has changed drastically getting ready for our wedding. I feel isolated from the rest of the world like a visiting foreigner speaking my own language. We have also recently been talking about if we will be ready to start trying for our first baby once March 1st has come and gone. Which strangely kind of terrifies me now that we are getting down to brass tacks on the subject after years of waiting for him lol
Not to mention, it's summer time and the living's easy ;) Lot's of time with family, my sisters 3 boys are on their way to visit from MA. I started babysitting for them when the oldest boy was born when I was 13. He will be 13 in November and I hear he is an inch and a half taller than me
Do ya'all remember that crazy poster on here who called herself a "professional" dog trainer, and recommended mounting a dog? Well, there is a person who regularly posts in mostly the cat section, and she has recommended "mounting" a cat and pinning it to the ground. Sometimes, I think my main reason for coming here anymore is not so much to give advice, but to advise people when REALLY BAD advice is given!!!
I have in the past been criticized for giving lots of negative comments. I think that is because lately, I just can't keep my mouth shut when someone tells someone else to do something that I feel may be potentially harmful to a pet.
The REALLY stupid people on here don't bother me so much-they come and go before you even knew they were here. It's the people who can SOUND like they know what they are talking about, but really don't, that scare me. They are the ones telling people to do things that are counterproductive and downright harmful to their animals. And that is something that I just can't ignore.
I figure people come here for advice. Why would they come here for advice? Either they really have no clue, or the normal stuff didn't work for them. Anyone can tell someone the same old run-of-the mill methods. It takes an opinionated, self-assured, perhaps nutty, eccentric, free thinker to post advice that is outside of the box.
You have great advice too, catlover. But it is the same thing over and over. Squirt him with water, shake a can of pennies, walk away, call a vet etc. To me, maybe not to everyone, that is all common sense, try it first kind of stuff. I think people come here to get a different point of view. That is what I try to give.
For the record, I have NEVER hurt any of my animals. Getting shot with water is just as unpleasant to any water-hating cat as anything else I have done.
I like most cats better than I like most people. I'll try to be nicer if you try to be smarter.
My apologies, that must have been someone else. But it is a common response in the cat-training forum.
And on the "mounting" debate, Police K9 officers work with dogs that are trained to be aggressive, on command, to a certain extent. Those officers do have to "mount and pin" their dogs occasionally. It establishes and reinforces that the human is dominant. It may sound weird, different, or even "scary", but it is truth. It is done, it does work. My boyfriend was a K9 officer in Florida. He has used, and still uses this method on his dogs. Just because it is a different idea does not mean it is wrong.
