I have a friend who was going to adopt a 7 month old Maltese/Poodle mix from another friend. The day she was on her way to get it the dog had some issues (I am not quite clear about the details) but had to be taken to the vet. Word has it they think it was hypoglycemia and the vet kept the dog overnight for observation. Up until this point the dog has been perfectly healthy and VERY well cared for. Any info on this would be helpful. Will the dog outgrow this condition or will it be reoccurring??? Thanks.
It's very easy for a tiny dog to become hypoglycemic, especially if they are fussy eaters. It's really hard to tell whether this is a passing bout, or a chronic condition, without knowing the dog's eating habits.
I understand the little dog is a very fussy eater. Hmmmm........I need to talk to the owner. I'm sure she got alot of information from her vet. She has decided that under the circumstances right now she can not adopt the dog out. So my other friend is broken hearted but she does understand. Thanks for your input.
I also have a toy poodle, and my vet cautioned me early not to let her exert herself in playing for more than 5 minutes because of the hypoglycemic problem in toys. Also, she is a very picky eater. She is now 2 years old and I still watch her closely.
