Weaning process for Siberian Huskies?

Need some advice about weaning process...

My Nikita is ready to wean her adorable 7 puppies but I don't know how to go about process! Nikita doesn't seem too interested with feeding her puppies anymore. She still wants to be with them and clean them but she won't lay down for them to nurse. They just bombard her and nurse anyways while she is standing up. We didn't plan this pregnancy and the books I've checked out don't really go into details on what all is involved. If anyone has some inormation to share, please, I need to know!

how old are the puppies? are you offering them fresh water and softened kibble or anything yet?

The easiest thing is the water and softened food. My pups didn't like the food mush, so I just took a hammer and broke up some kibble. After that it is clean sailing, and mom wont really be needed anymore

The puppies are not quite 4 weeks but I was told by my vet that they wouldn't be weaned until 5-6 weeks. So I have been spending my time finding good homes for these little guys thinking I had more time before the weaning. They are liking the water and the mushed up food. Is there any other advice I should know about this stage in their lives?

Gypsy all dogs are different; so your vet was giving you a ballpark date for weaning. The signs to look for are exactly what you are seeing, the dam standing up, wanting to be with the pups, but not wanting to nurse. I would feed them 2-3 times a day, depending on how hungry they are, with softened dog food, making sure they have access to plenty of water. If you want to make sure each one is getting enough, feed them with their own bowl,and perhaps split them into 2 groups. Watch for the biggest little piggy to eat the smallest one's food.
Good luck, sounds like you're on the right track anyway. What type of dog food are you feeding?
p.s. Have you wormed them yet?

We have another puppy staying at our house right now and she has a sensative stomach so we have a high quality puppy food that is easy to digest. The puppies seem to like it and their stool has stayed somewhat solid. I discussed with my vet when to start deworming and the vacinations and all that but they said not until the puppies have been weaned for a week. Should I deworm them now? I do plan on moving them outside, they are currently located beside my bed and I haven't gotten much sleep since they were born. We tried to move them but Nikita kept bringing them back. Should I deworm them before I move them outside?

Even if they are weaned by 6 weeks, you should absolutely be keeping hte puppies until they are at the minimum of 8 weeks old before sending them to their new homes. During the 6-8 week age period a puppy learns a few important social lessons from it's littermates and mother, including bite inhibition.

I completely agree with that and I understand the need to keep them together and with mom till 8 weeks. I had someone want to buy and take home one of my puppies early so they could bottle-feed it and "bond better with it"! I politely told them that I would not do that and explained to them why it isn't good to take them away from each other till 8 weeks. I am just moving them outside to my kennel. They will have much more room to run and play in the kennel. Plus, if Nikita isn't going to be cleaning up after them, I would prefer the mess outside. They are currently in my carpeted bedroom!

Gypsy, I always worm my puppies at 2,4 6, and 8 weeks of age, however, I'm not an expert on your breed, and don't profess to know what their worming schedule should be. There are other Husky breeders on the forum who can tell you what they do. I would definitely worm them before they go outside, but that's just my opinion. Good luck with them.
