I was just wondering if this was an issue with other people owned by doxies, because our lhasa apso has no issues with the groomer. Our doxie, Cody, loves going to the pet store, until he notices that we are not going into the STORE part, but rather, the grooming section. That's when the whining, the barking, the peeing himself, the scraping along the concrete...basically the equivalent of the human two year old temper tantrum. My husband then has to lift up the growling, "oh, so very vicious" 25 lb standard doxie up and let the poor groomer know that Cody is afraid of getting his nails clipped and will literally do anything to avoid going to the clippers (in fact, he faked a back injury after it healed, dead serious, I'm not kidding you here!) and that's why he looks like a Trex on his front feet. And once Cody gets up and over the barrier to keep the dogs in and the concerned humans out, is when all hell breaks loose. Kicking, whining, running, crying, screaming that you can hear all over the store, basically he sounds abused and it takes a muzzle and two to four people to do the clipping. Then when the torture is over and he's out of the store, my husband isn't talked to for at least a couple of hours. Does anyone else have this problem out there?
Doxies can be a handful even though they are cute as can be. I had a mini several years ago and what at temper. Wow. The older he got the worse he got until we had to actually pick him up with gloves. As far as the nails maybe a grinder would do better than trying to cut them. Good luck~~
