My 12 pound yorkie usually has pretty firm stools. This morning he would not get out of bed. I pushed him out the door to go potty, he would not go(not mormal). He would not eat, drink or anything, just wanted to sit on my lap. My husband thought he was probably constipated. I took him for a long walk / run. He began urinating but not pooping. He came inside and did eat some wet food and had some water. I took him for a walk again 2 hours later. He did poop, but it did not look normal for him. It was loose but not runny and small & thin poop more like a cat. He is now acting perky again and his tail is up, but I am still concerned. Should I be looking for any unusual signs? Their are no worms in his poop. Should I take him to vet just in case it is something or just give it more time and see how he does?
It may be the dogs anal glands that need to be drained by your vet. Sound weird but that happened to me with my Black Lab. Most people will say that unless the dog is scooting his rear end on the floor it is not his anal glands.......but my dog never did that and sure enough it was his glands. Good luck.
