The other day I was walking out in the street, and in my country there are areas were people dump their garbage out on the street so the dump truck picks it up.
I was like 35 feet away from this pile of junk and I see 2 little kittens moving. I got close to them and they were newborns, about 3 or 4 days old. Somebody had put them in a garbage bag and tossed them in there to die. Some guy walked by the garbage and heard them, ripped the bag and took them out.
he says they were 3, but I only found 2. I looked all over the place for the 3rd one, but couldn't find it.
There was thislittle girl who lives close by so I asked her for a box, and she got me one. I took the 2 babies and took them with me. I called directory assistance so I could get the number of any animal shelters or animal friendly foundations.
They didn't have any numbers listed. I called my dog's vet and he gave me the number to a animal friendly place, so I called and explained to this lady who answered the phone if they could take them and care for them, since I have a dog and didn't want to take the cats home.
She tells me that the best place to do is take them to a vet and have them euthanized. I went crazy and told her that I should have left them in the garbage if the only solution would be killing them. I hung up on her.
She calls me back and gives me the number to another animal friendly place, and tells me again that the best is to kill them, so I raised my voice and told her that I was not killing them and if I had to take care of them by myself then I would and hung up on her again.
Since I didn't know how long it had been since they last ate, I went to a store and got some milk. I couldn't find those small baby bottles so I had to buy a syringe (without the needle) to feed them. They ate a little bit since the syringe is hard, but at least they ate something.
Later I called my brother, who is an animal lover and I explained to him about the cats. He has like 5 cats in the house already and my mom doesn't want more cats in the house (he lives with her). He told me to bring them to him.
After I dropped the cats at his place, he went and got them a small baby bottle so they can eat and some milk.
I stopped by yesterday to check on them and they are fine. They have started to open their eyes and are well fed. I am so glad I saved them. And to think they would be dead by now.
This is one of the reasons I can put up with animals and not so much with people.
There is no point on this thread and I don't want praise or attention, but I needed to vent.
I know how you feel. When my kitties were little and I would give them a bath, I couldn't help but think about how people drown kittens to get rid of them. I'd fight to keep that thought out of my head. But then I'd have the poor little wet thing in the wash basin and I'd think terrible thoughts because she'd look so pitiful. So then the though that people do awful things to them would just come into my head. Looking at their little face, how could you???? I don't know how people could be cruel to any animal, nevermind a baby animal.
I can't figure out people. I have vented about several of my neighbors on this forum. One of them has a small puppy on a rope tied outside. The pup has a very thick double coat and it's been in the high ninties here. AC say as long as there's food, water and shelter, they can do nothing. I had my dogs outside for a potty break today and Bailey, my Maltese, stared at the whining pup for a full five minutes (a long time for him). I swear he must have been wondering why his mommy wasn't running out to see what was wrong. My dog seems more concerned about a pup he's never met than the people who brought him home.
