Hi, I have a yorkie-poo that is about a year and a half now. We recently took him to the vet and he said it was time to change his food. We had him on Iams Puppy. Now, the vet said he is a few pounds under weight, but he eats all day, but also goes number 2 all day as well. A lady at Pet Smart told us to try Healthy Choice. She said it is really healthy for them, but also will help him not to go as much. He won't eat it. I tried mixing his old food with it, but he would just pick them out. I tried hand feeding him, but he keeps spitting them out. It has been a week now and I thought he would eat it if he really got hungray, but he's not. Tonight we got him Alpo, the soft juicy food in a can. He ate some of it, but then wouldn't eat anymore. I need a food that is good for him that will help him gain weight, but also one he will like. I'm getting really concerned about him and need some help as soon as possible. Thank you!
After a week of not eating, I am going to give in. He was losing weight and not eating anything! We feed him morning and night, and his food goes back up when we are done. He's not sick because we just brought him back from the vet. We switched him over to Alpo, the wet food, but i'm wondering if that is okay for him. He's eating it, but is he still getting all the good stuff?
There is no such thing as "good stuff" in alpo. Anything you can buy at walmart is trash. Go to petsmart/petco etc and get some high quality good. Cannidea, Wellness, Nutro Natural, Blue Buffalo.. all are good foods. Also, wet food is bad for the teeth and is about 80 percent water. Buy a good dry kibble, some of it can be moderately pricey, but it lasts longer considering it's full of GOOD STUFF they only have to eat small amounts. I feed Nutro Natural Lamb and Rice and my dogs only eat about a cup a day, also there is less eliminating because all of the nutrients are absorbed.
