Our Queen had 7 kittens and they were unable to nurse from the mother due to inverted nipples. No matter what I did they seemed to just die off one by one all but 3. The Vet says it was Fading kitten syndrome. Anyone have this problem?
I'm sorry you had to go through this heartbreaking event. If you could have had the kittens tube fed, which your vet obviously decided not to do, more kittens would have been kept alive. I don't believe in fading kitten syndrome nor fading puppy syndrome. There is always a reason for that little animal to die, and yet, the easiest way to explain the inexplicable is to come up with a title such as 'fading kitten or puppy syndrome'. Your question was, have I heard of it, and yes, I've had kittens die (and pups). The difference is, there was a concrete reason for those deaths. Part of the reason your kittens died was they did not receive enough colostrum, and food to survive. Once again, I'm sorry about your litter, and hope the remaining 3 are strong and hearty. Good luck with them.] >
