We have a male Snorkie named Louie and he is 12 weeks old. We got him when he was 6 weeks old. He is such a sweet puppy but he has an issue of wanting to chew and everything and everyone. Is this a puppy propblem or a Snorkie trait? How do we help to control his urge for chewing especially on people. Other than that he is very well behaved and seems to be very intelligent and loving. Help our Louie!
First of all, what dog is this crossed with, besides a Yorkie? He is at the prime chewing and teething age, and the best thing to keep him occupied is to take him for frequent walks, and offer good sturdy toys for him to gnaw on. Keep all your valuable leather shoes out of the way, as well as anything else you don't want chewed. Make sure the puppy knows what his toys are, and put a good chewy one in his crate, unless you're afraid of him choking. I wouldn't give him rawhide, it has been know to cause intestinal blockages.
Oh! oh! Can I play "what's that mutt??"...I am guessing its a mini schnauzer and a yorkie mix!?! What do I get if I'm right? LOL I agree with Pen's suggestions. Puppies are active and get bored easily. If they don't have enough to occupy them, they will chew. I'm sure you'll do fine following Pen's suggestions. Post pictures of the pup if you can. I would like to see what a "snorkie" looks like.
I bet he's a little sweetie, I'd love to see a picture of him too. I forgot to tell you that you can also make a loud noise, with a firm 'NO', and a shake of a can of pennies,if you catch him actually chewing the furniture, or one of your shoes. Some people have used a squirt bottle with water in it, deploying a squirt in the face. He will be a smart little guy though, and catch on quickly.I wish you luck.
