Hi There I have a one year old Ori-pei (Sharpei/pug) and he just keeps marking everywhere in the house even when he has been potty trained for a while. Is there any advise you can give me? I have tried to clean up the places he will mark and then use a no marking cleaner after that to make sure that the scent is gone but he finds a new place after that. He is very stubborn and thinks he is in charge most of the time so we have been working on that as well. Thanks.
Is he neutered? Neutering can help about 50% of dogs with marking behavior. If he's got it as a habit though it's going to be a hard habit to break. I'd keep him on a leash when he's in the house so he can't sneak off and mark. I'd also come down on him pretty hard if he marked while on the leash. I don't mean beating him or anything but leash correction and making my depleasure clearly known by my mood and tone of voice.
You can also try a 'belly band', which is a strap that wraps around his belly and over his sheath. So if he tries to mark he merely pees on himself and not furniture. That's enough to deter some dogs.
Never trust a tall dwarf... he's lying about something.
I use a "Willie Wrap" same as a belly band. I place a sanitary napkin in it (you would need depends if you have a bigger breed). When my boys mark they wee in the pad and wahla! no mess to clean up! I also babysit dogs in my home and all males wear them as long as they are in my home. I change the pads everytime they go outside (approx. every 2 hrs.) The pads keep the urine away from the skin so it does not get irritated. Marking is a very hard behavior to overcome, once it has become habit. The Willie Wraps can save your furniture and sanity! They come in all kinds of colors and prints I have several in different colors and sizes. My dogs and the ones I babysit come in the house and stand and wait for me to put them on. If you would like, I can have the lady I get mine from to email you. She does an excellent job (very well made) I have had a couple of mine for 5 yrs. and they are still in great shape. They are cheap compared to furniture and carpet cleanings. She makes really cute ones, I got a batman and superman and one for christmas and valentines day etc... they look really cute in them. lol lol lol if they have to wear them they might as well look good!!! I have bought one on the internet and was very disappointed in it, It fell apart after the 3rd washing. Good luck and hope this helps.
