Hello My name is Jennifer. I am the human belonging to Alice. She is a 7 year old Boston Terrier in pretty great health according to her most recent vet visit on Monday. I am very concerned for her at this moment though because today I came home from the zoo with my son, picked her from my mother's house and she has some incredibly SORE looking wounds, two on her ear, one on her tail, one on her stomach. They are smallish and round, red and oozy. And on her belly, like under her arms...sort of in her dog arm pit if you will, the skin is crusty and lumpy and kind of smells. Does anyone have any idea what this could be and if its going to get worse? Or how I may help her? Thank you so much in advance
i would take her to the vet immediatley especially since you are noticing an odor, did you ask your mom where she was meaning outside, could she have gotten into some chemicals (like chemical burns) they could also be bites being small and round, i would have it checked out fast. good luck
sounds like spider bites to me. a trip to the vet is needed as some spider bites can cause serious tissue death. hope she is better soon and if it is spider bites your mom needs to do something to get rid of them.
I would get her to the vet since it sounds like a staph infection, a bad allergic reaction, from a chemical or insect bites. Sarcoptic mange also comes to mind, but it would not suddenly appear like this. Good luck at the vet's. I will be really interested in what it is, not just because I breed Bostons, but because I have never seen these signs, and want to hear how little Alice is doing.
So sorry it has taken me so long to give an update. I have a 9 week old baby which sometimes makes internetting difficult :-) So I took Alice to our beloved vet, and he was completely stumped as to what was wrong. Seriously. He has no idea what is wrong. So, he sent us home with 3 different kinds of pills, one's an anti fungal, one's for a bacterial infection and one's to help with the itiching. He also sent us home with chlorhexiderm which I am to bathe her with once a day for 3 days, then every 3 days...not so bad except I am supposed to let it sit on her skin for 10 to 15 minutes before I rinse and she hates it, and sits and shivers and stares at me.
Also he said no more cookies for her (dog cookies of course) and no changing her food until we figure this out. I never change her food anyway. He wants to see her back in 10 to 12 days to make sure this is going away or else he said "we're going to have to start different testing" which freaks me out.
