son was giving a six week old lab puppy(mom got hit by truck)...puppy has firm round belly..he wags tail, healthy gums and bright eyes. worms? but he drinks and eats fine..so what else or is it norm for him being so young and losing his mom suddenly. I am taking Hershey to the vet tomorrow for checkup etc.
The pups was on the farm...the guy that gave the pup to my son said that they dont have worms and they eat food when given...I hope he finds home for the others. I have to wait til 8:30 to call the vet before I take him in for checkup.
I do hope the guy was right no worms but yet I will feel better when checked since I can't tell.
the last puppy my son got off a farm....the owner was negleting all the female pups...when my son got a girl pup from him ..it died in his arms after a week and we took her to vet, worm medicine and all but she was so full of worms. she was skinny though and didnt eat.
I maybe too cautious but my son has always wanted a lab and I do not want anything to happen like that again.
Children don't get canine worms, but worms can get under the skin and travel throughout their systems, esp if there are scratches or scrapes. Be very careful allowing your younger children to play with the puppy until it is confirmed its no longer infected. Have your older son make sure to wash his hands and arms thoroughly after playing with the puppy.
