Using Hand Beatings, Cattle Prods and Slibgshot Balls to Train Dogs Not to bark or Bite
An Animal Behaviorist is using cattle prods sling shots to train dogs not to bark or bite. Do you agree or disagree with this method?

As crazy as it sounds, an animal behaviorist is using hand and fist beatings, pvc pipes, cattle prods and sling shots with their metal projectiles wrapped in aluminum foil (to soften the blow) against small dogs to stop them from biting or barking. There is a thick glove used and the dog is baited to bite. Once it does bite the glove, the "professional behaviorist" starts beating the dog with an 18 inch PVC pipe, hands, fists, cattle prod and more. Is this an acceptable practice in the dog training industry? The "behavioral" sessions cost $1,000 each (every few days) which has resulted in broken ribs, blood in the urine and stool, pain and suffering and even vet bills in the thousands of dollars after the session. This practice has been found to be condoned and recommended by vets. I believe that there are many owners and their dogs who have been victimized but may now be embarrassed to come forward. In addition, the behaviorist may have had the owners to participate in the "behavioral correction", making them possible participants of cruelty against their animals. Can anyone shed some light on this practice? Is it acceptable or should it be prosecuted? Thanks in advance! Please feel free to reply to this forum of via email to animalcrueltynjusa@gmail.com. Whoever is touting themselves as an animal behaviourist, and using these methods, is firstly, not an animal behaviourist, and secondly guilty of cruel and inhumane punishment.
Whoever knows about this person should report them to the authorities, and spread the word as fast as possible about this
person.
I wonder if he'd like a damn good beating with a pvc pipe, and a couple of cracks to the skull with a cattle prod?
This type of thing makes me furious, and I just can't imagine how those poor dogs come away from there and be normal.

You've got to be kidding me! What responsible animal owner would willingly put their pet through this torture. I swear, dogs aren't bad, people make them act in bad ways. I can see how this type of treatment would traumatize a dog, and in time cause it to be more aggressive and problematic. I rescued a Chow when he was 2 years old, he was not well trained, but allowed to run free. This dog killed everything that got in his pen, but loved people. Until one day, when he was 10, he snapped, I have nasty scars to prove it. I never hit this dog, and when the 'incident' occured, I was only yelling at him to get out of the garbage, I thought he was going to get me to the ground and go for my throat. It makes me wonder what happened to him the two years before I got him, maybe something like this. I agree, the behaviorist needs a good beating, then they'll understand the damage.

If there is a dog out there that will continue to bite after being beaten with a PVC pipe and shocked by a cattle prod. Tell the "behaviorist" To contact me....I will buy the dog!!!!

If he touched one of my dogs a cattle prod would be the least of his problems grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Call in the human society the man is a disgusting idiot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find these methods disgusting. I also don't like the fact there are people who advocate training a dog to attack by hiting it with a baton or lengths of bamboo.As far as I am concerned, it is all animal abuse. I have done Bullmastiff rescue for over 30 years and sometimes take in a dog that the owner has tried to train to be protective and then decides to get rid of the dog after it has become too much of a danger to own. I have nasty bite wounds from dealing with these dogs. I never, never hit a dog even if it is biting me. I have always had a no kill shelter and I keep these dogs until they die of old age. It can take a long time to build trust of a human after a dog has been so abused. I have not takenn a vacation in 21 years because I do not have anyone who can safely handle these poor dogs if I am not here. Some of them will allow another person near them if I am right there and others will not tolerate anyone but me . I refuse to put down a dog for something that is not its fault.

I would like to hear back from the OP, and have more information about this so-called 'behaviourist'. He asks "Is it acceptable or should it be prosecuted?"
There's something wrong with a person who has to ask that question.

Drogdreha Bullmastiff....Are you talking about Schutzhund and Ring dogs?

I believe this to be a troll post by an animal rights fanatic. It was probably intended to get people to respond in the forum with their opinions against such "training" techniques (justifiably, of course) then when people google abuse and training this and similar posts will come up and add fuel to a nonexistent fire. Not that abusive training doesn't happen but I'm in NJ and I haven't heard about the trainer being posted about. I'm sure it would have hit the news and the person's training business would have been shut down if it were true.

Yes, I am talking about Schutzund training. I don't think there is a valid reason to train a dog to bite. I have watched these traing sessions done by a professional trainer and have personally taken care of dogs trained this way. I took care of a dog that was trained for drug searches in the Kentucky state prisons and was trained to respond only to commands spoken in German. The dog's owner was ill and I took care of all 10 of her dogs for several months. I was told what commands to give him and didn't know any German prior to that time. There are too many people who attempt this type of traing just because they have seen a video,etc and do tremendous damage to the dog's mental stability.I personally think there is no valid reason to own a dog that is trained to attack or bite, except for law enforcement or military use.I have scars on both of my hands and arms from a dog that was trained to attack, I was taking care of her after her puppies were born as the owners both worked full time. She tried to kill her pups and when I tried to save them she turned on me. I will not hit a dog but I do know how to immobilize any size dog to prevent my self from further injury.

I see? Is that your only experience with Schutzhund?

I only ask because that's not my experience. I have been seriously competeing at high levels of Schutzhund competetion now for five years.

I have found a community of seriously responsible owners, people whom absolutley adore thier dogs, and dogs that were social, well trained, safe in public....In fact the dogs have to get a BH ( temperment test to see if the dog is social and safe) before going onto protection.

I have found a very pro-active community of dog owners.
Also being in the Military...I am aware from both ends how important protection dog sports are for this country... The military buys thier dogs from Schutzhund and ring dog stock. MY dog Addie, Could very well one day provide a dog to the Marines, Coast Guard, Local Police.

I have yet to see a person beat thier dog to get it to bite....Everyone I know would be taking this type of dog back to the breeder.

Also, the stick in schutzhund is no harder than one of those pool noodles. and the bamboo is split, it just makes noise.

What I have experienced is a very dedicated group of people whom deeply care about dogs in general, that want to do right by them.

None of us want a dog that will bite the mail man.

Nor will shutzhund training make a dog eat it's puppies. It sounds like the dog you had was just crazy.

I have had personal contact with both properly and improperly trained dogs and I still think the general public has no business owning a dog that has been trained to bite. The use of such dogs by the military or law enforcement is an entirely different matter. Once any dog has bitten a person for whatever reason there is a very real potential for that dog to bite in the future and it may not be in the context the owner would choose.I do not consider such training a "sport" just as I do not consider training a dog to fight another dog a "sport" or in the dogs best interests. There are so many other activities a person can be involved in with their dog, obedience, agility, scent work,or therapy to name a few.

Who ever advocated this method to train a dog is inhuman and should never be allowed to keep a dog.

Like a child. Do you think beating a child will make it behave and love you?

Dogs should be trained with love and gentle ways which works much better because dogs love to obey your commands. Dogs have what an experience dog trainer called mental triggers to obey.
