I am a huge sap like you Zomo. I have nicknames for all my dogs, and they know what they mean, I sleep with them, and they all have their own spot, and I also sing looney little songs which include their names. I'd give you an example, but you'd think I'm a few bricks short of a load. I know,I need help.
You aren't the only ones needing time on the funny farm. My husband and I sing along to songs on the radio and replace some of the words with "The Boxer" which makes us both laugh. I baby talk a lot (apologies to Cesar the Whisperer) and as far as a good face plant....how can you not???!
Minniyar my husband says I shouldn't talk baby talk to my dogs LOL and my reply to that is "yeah I know,I know, when they learn to talk they will be using baby talk" LOL And I agree I am half way to the looney bin
never did it to my son but talk baby talk to my dogs and cats. spanky just loves when you do it his whole personality changes and he gets "giddy" we also change words to songs to fit spankys name in it. i catch my husband all the time talking baby talk and spanks tail is just going like crazy, faster then it normally goes which is unbelievable. my cat however could care less but i still do it, as long as you are giving him a treat he doesnt care what voice you use just feed him. lol....
I do talk to all the animals but have never used "baby talk" to human or any other type of baby. I do use different tones of voice to express happiness, praise, it's playtime, and my stern no nonsense tone when an animal is doing something I don't like. Even the cats respond to my tone of voice and accept the "no" word.I reserve kisses for the top of the head and hugs are freely given to all even the rescue dogs. I know that can be dangerous but my philosophy is I would rather find out a dog won't accept hugs while it is with me than to place the dog in a home with children an find out after it has bitten a child. I usually have at least one Bullmastiff, the Chihuahua, and one or two cats on the bed with me. I don't think there is a problem with letting an animal sleep with you as long as it accepts you are in charge of who sleeps where and you are not challenged when you tell it to move. Again it is important to me to know how a dog will behave and all its quirks before it is placed for adoption.
I am the same Drogheda, I have never used baby talk to my kids when they were babies or my dogs although I do give them lots of kisses and hugs - and yes Max does sleep on the bed with me but when I don't feel like it its enough to say no Max and he gets down no problem. I do quite often tell them how good looking, gorgeous, yummy... they are - just like my kids....
i baby talk to my dogs all the time. my son cant stand to be in the same room as me when i am doing it and asks me to stop it all the time lol. hubby thinks i am nuts too, however he carries on conversations with the dogs himself lol.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
