We had been hearing a strange squealing sound for a few days from the top of a tree at my house. Yesterday my son started looking to see what it could possibly be. There was a baby squirrel stuck in the top of the tree. Colby, in his infinite 16 yr-old wisdom, climbed the tree to rescue the squirrel. He fell halfway out of the tree but landed with the squirrel in his hand unharmed. Now what do I do with a baby squirrel? It is very cute, but I have no idea how to care for this creature. I am writing this from work but will try to post the picture of it when I get home.
call the nearest wildlife rescue center or contact the local Humane Society. A baby animal of any type will not squeal unless in distress, I would guess its mother has been hit by a car or killed by a predator, so just placement back in a tree is NOT the answer.
