Can anyone help me with my problem? We have a 1 year old Redbone puppy. He had been bottle fed since he was 2 days old as his mama didn't make it. He is very well mannered does not make messes in the house and now we have a problem. Last week we got another puppy an English Springer Spaniel. The older pup was a little standoffish at first but got over it. He lays down on the floor and lets the little one chew on his lips. ears. legs and they roll aroung and have fun, the problem is the older pup becomes aggressive towards the pup around food. we have punishe him for this but it doesn't seem to help only makes things worse in my opinion. Help I am so attached to the older pup. He has been my baby for the last year and everyone is now yelling at him for this problem. I don't want to put him on drugs we are very rural and there are no dog training places around here.
Is the hound actually hurting the pup? Our hounds display their dominance in the pack order with posturing and being loud but don't actually hurt the other dogs in their pack. They tend to be very vocal rather than fight. They are bred to be dog-friendly. It may be that the dog is merely communicating to make its status clear to the pup. If the hound hurts the pup they may have to be kept separated.
This is exactly the problem I'm having with my 2 1/2 year old! He wants to play with other dogs and they all seem to hate him! I've had to break up more dog fights...other owners blame my dog but I'm watching, and I KNOW he isn't starting it--but he is finishing it b/c he is one tough little cookie. What ever came of your situation?
