A post I read last week started me thinking of this.
As a new breeder I have a mentor. My female has her CH. WAC is working on her CD and is of a very good blood line. The stud I chose for her is also of very good blood line and is one of the top dogs of his breed in the country. I and my mentor have done a lot of thinking and planning looking for a mate for my female that would be the perfect mate, one that would strengthen her weeknesses and inhance her strengths.
However, last week I read a post about someone who was new to dogs, had the dog only a few days or weeks and while babysitting her neighbbors dog had the unexpected happen.
Where does someone like this turn? Do they just let the dog deliver the puppies on her own like some street dog of does or does she (I assume the poster was a she) provide assistance when she doesn't know what she is doing either.
Hence the thought of a "Canine Mid-wife". Then I wondered is there such a service out there where the uninformed could turn for someone to help them. Paid or not I think it is a needed service.
