HI my name is tiffany and i have a 1 1/2 year old male boxer, and he is out of control!!! Ok for example he barks at everyone and every little noise he hears, now i know that is normal for that but he over does it,& he dont stop when you tell him to! no matter how loud or even the tone of your voice, he just ignores you. And he likes to try to escape everytime you open a door. Now where i live i cannot have him acting like that or i will have to get rid of him, if any1 has any advice to help me out pllzzzzz help me out!!
Have you taken your dog through any obedience classes? A good trainer should be able to help you through this. There are also some good bark collars out there that are humane. I know several people that have had great results with the spray type of bark collar. It just sprays a scent they don't like when they bark after so many times. They also make some that are remote controlled, so you can control when the dog gets sprayed.
Tiffany, you need to take your dog and enroll him in an obedience class. You should also walk him , a good long walk at least twice a day. Boxers have tons of energy, as you've found out, and they can be a lot of work. Good luck with him.
Hi! I can understand your frustration boxers have soooooooo much energy. Your dog needs to get out and run. They say a happy boxer is a tired boxer. Positive reinforcement works better than punishment motivated training. It is very dangerous for your dog if he runs out of the house. So never open the door for your dog unless he is sitting. Never open the door to anyone unless you have control of the dog . If he is barking at things do not yell at him this tends to make the situation worse. If he is barking at you, take yourself out of the picture. Go into another room and shut the door. If he is barking at something outside pull him away from the window, wait, ant then let him go to the window again , if he starts to bark then pull him back again. It shouldn't be long before he realizes that barking just gets him farther away from what he wants. It is a very good idea to look into NILIF training (Nothing In Life Is Free) Good Luck !
I wanted to add something here, When your dog does bark, don't yell at him, just walk away, and ignore him. When hes quiet, thats when you give attention. Dogs don't understand human language, so if your yelling at him for barking, it just sounds like your barking to, so it actually casues the barking to escalate. Get yourself the spray collar, that sprays when the dog barks, that way you don't even have to be with him for it to work. Keep in mind not all dogs are bothered by it. Susanne
