Hello! I have a 4 month old female kitten name KOI (previously called PRIDE) who I feed Blue Buffalo kitten dry everyday and canned Blue Buffalo 4 times a week. A 5 oz can will last me a week. Would it make a difference in her health and coat if I used a high quallity dry food and a low quality canned (Fancy Feast) food? I'm a new kitten pet parent and still learning! :)
* As long as you are feeding Blue Buffalo dry which is a very good quality and contains all the nutrition she needs, then there is no reason you can't supplement with a lesser quality canned food. Mine only get canned once a week as their Sunday morning treat and they love the Fancy Feast elegant medleys. (tuscan and florentine) I would certainly never base their whole diet on it, but it's main ingredient is the fish so it's not junk. I have tried feeding them Wellness and other "better" foods for the canned and they turned up their noses. I want them to enjoy their food. There is also no reason that you have to supplement with canned at all. A good quality dry gives them everything they need and is better for their teeth. There are a lot of opinions out there and as a new cat owner, it's easy to get concerned that you're doing it wrong because of what everybody else is saying. Just watch the ingredients to make sure the good stuff like meat or fish comes before the grains and other things.
