About two weeks ago I found a stray dog running around near my house. She is a very pretty German Shepherd Mix. She is a great dog, but I think she is ill. Ever since I took her in she has been having flu symptoms. Now, she is unable to use one of her back legs. She seems like she is really confused and anxious. She will not sleep and is just acting confused. She gets really snappy when I try to touch her and is just paranoid. Today I went to pet her on her back and she turned around and snapped at me. Then for the next hour or so she would turn around, look upset, and then back up into the wall. I've also noticed that she will just bark and growl at absolutely nothing! She is just really out of it. She would not drink water today and I could not get her to drink any yesterday. She is acting like she has brain damage or something. I've been calling her Emmy, and she isn't very old. I'm really worried about her. I don't know what to do. I would really like some advice. I've never had a dog before or ever wanted to have a dog. I am absolutely clueless about what is going on with her. I feel really bad for the poor thing. She is really pretty and I don't want her to suffer.
That is so sad. With her being so young and running loose when you found her maybe she has been hit by a car or something. I would take her to the vet asap and have her checked out. Sounds like she might really be in pain with her being snippy.
Those symptoms sound serious, take the dog to the vet if you don't want her to suffer! Your good deed/heroic efforts did not end the minute you gave in and took the dog into your home.
Have you been trying to locate any possible owners, or just watching the dog spiral downward the past couple of weeks and then typing about it here? Do you have any animals of your own? It would be a great idea to separate them until she can be seen.
Watch out for dehydration, it happens fast and it can damage her organs permanently.
