My 9 year old chihuahua has to get a full mastectomy and also apparently has a heart murmur. She is not spayed and the vet was thinking of doing that too. I was wondering what you decided to do. Did you go ahead with the surgery? What were the results?
From what I have had friends experiance, I would not do the surgery. I would just let the dog live out the remainder of it's life as comfortable as you can. You might have them put her on Lasix just to help reduce fluid retention.
He's your friend, your partner, your defender your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to worthy of such devotion
With a heart murmur that far along, I wouldn't bother. I would just enjoy her for what life she has left, and keep her comfortable. I had a client whos older (cant remember age) 10+ standard had breast cancer with out a heart murmur. They did the surgery, and the spay. She never really came back to herself, and only lived for about another year anyway. I don't think it bought her much if any extra time.
