i have an 8 month pitbull who eats his own and my other dogs feces! i get on him when i see him starting to look interested but he does it so fast. please, if anyone has any answers i would love to hear it.
There are a few dog food additives on the market to help with this behavior, but, although I only tried them on one copraphagic dog, none of them worked. You can google for these and also for help for dealing with a copraphagic dog.
My solution was to feed the dogs a no-grain food (lessening the quantity) and scoop up the poop as soon as it was eliminated. I can't believe your dogs are soooo hungry as to get to it before you can. Keep an eagle eye on them and scoop as soon as they poop.
sometimes he will stand right there and when kuma has a movement he will eat it fresh. only fresh, not something that has been around awhile. and we get on him EVERY time. it is becoming less and less but its still disturbing when it happens. i guess its because i work in a microbiology lab and actually work with that type of specimen. couldn't imagine doing that! we do pick up asap but not always on time.
yup...my little pom was eating his own fresh stuff. He also loves cat poop but that is another story. If you wish to leave him out by himself in the yard...it will happen
Even ours now will walk away from it after he does it and i pick it up, but he then will go back to the area and look for it. Luckily he hasn't eaten it because he hasn't had the chance...although he may if we let him
CATLOVER... my dogs spend time out in the back yard because they hate being in the house. i have a large yard why not take advantage. plus, i actually work and am not home all day to hang out in the back yard. and speaking like i dont do anything for my dogs. how many walks do you take yours on??? i do at least 2 walks a day.
Flipper, have you tried adding crushed pineapple to the other dog's food? It is supposed to make the poop unpalatable, there's an oxymoron if I've ever heard one. I can definitely see where it would be very difficult to pick up the poop all the time, as you say you do have to work, etc. What kind of food are you feeding? Some dogs actually eat feces because they are short on certain minerals etc. I'd like to know if the pineapple trick works.Good luck.
Sorry, I don't agree with leaving dogs outside unsupervised, and, yes, I do work. Too much risk, too many unknowns. I'm sure my dog would love it, but too bad, it's a risk I'm not willing to take. Obviously, you are...I can agree to disagree, no problem.
I wish you luck with all the additives (including pineapple). I tried them all. They all failed. That, of course, is just my experience. I hope yours is better.
when iam home my dogs are out in the back yard. other than that they are in the house. why do i need to justify anything to you. its people like you who ruin talks like this. you think you are a know it all. sounds more like a nosey person who just sits on the computer waiting to act on things like this.with as many responses that you have looks like iam right. peace, iam out
