I just wanted to know if anyone else has witnessed this in their dogs/puppies: Sometimes when Molly has a toy that she likes, she will pick it up and walk around with it, whining and crying. She did this a couple of times months ago, with a little stuffed animal that was her favourite at the time; then a month later she did this a couple of times with her new favourite stuffy. Last night, she got a new bully stick that she clearly loved, and she walked around the apartment crying, with her stick in her mouth! i don't think she's physically hurting because she's not sick, doesn't have any cuts, etc... she only does it when she has her prized possessions. what could this mean? could this be a reflex of some sort? or is she so happy that she cries? my only other guess is that she could be trying to hide her treasure, and can't find a place to do it? (she has taken to hiding her bully sticks throught the apartment, mainly in corners or in her bed). I'm interested to know if anyone has some insight.
My dog does that with her bones and a little duck. I'm not sure why she picks the little duck as it really isn't her favourite. However, I think she whines because she can't find a place to hide them. she hides her bones in the sofa, in my bed, in my laundry, underneath the patio step, etc. If she can't find a place, she will get whiny and anxious. For some reason, she feels the need to hide the little duck. I'm not saying this is why your dog is doing this but maybe???
In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semi human. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog. ~Edward Hoagland
lol! that's interesting, Molly's first favourite toy, and the first one she ever did this with was also a little duck. Ok, so at least I now know that she's not the only that does this . From the behaviour I saw the last time, I think maybe it is some sort of anxiety that she feels when she can't find a good hiding spot. thanks!
Our Dobe is a goof. When she gets a new bone or toy, she wants to hide it first before she will chew on it/play with it. She wanders all over whining and looking, I finally take it and hide it for her while she watches. Makes her happy, then she'll go get it and will go ahead and chew on it since it had been hidden, lol.
