My 9 month old toy poodle has a spot on her right hip about the size of a quarter where no hair is growing. A friend of mine said it looked like a "clipper burn" from the groomer. She told me to put aloe on it and it would get better. It's been two weeks and it's still the same. It doesn't seem to bother her...just a quarter size round spot with no hair. Anyone hear of this before? Any tips or should I take her to the vet about this? Thanks for all your help.
I doubt it is clipper burn, is it red, scabby, or itchy? Bad clipper burn is just that, a burn. It can turn into a nasty infections, so I really doubt it. Everyone is so quick to blame groomers for everything.
Did your vet give a shot there? I have seen several dogs that have those kinds of reactions to shots. Esp. rabies. I would check with your vet. good luck
My dog had a spot similar to that on the upper part of his thigh. He had no hair on it. We asked the vet about it and he said that it may have been from a bite of some sort. No idea? It didn't itch or anything and after awhile the hair grew back and there hasn't been any problems since. Good luck with yours though.
The area is not red...in fact, it doesn't look sore at all. Like I said, it is the size of a quarter, the skin feels calloused and there is no hair growing there. She hasn't had a shot recently but I'm glad you asked that question because it got me thinking, this showed up right after she was spayed. I wonder if they gave her some kind of shot there for that. I think I will talk to the vet. Thanks for your help.
