Although it has a mane now, it clearly has mange (IMO), so we have no way of knowing how much fur it originaly had. I am thinking it is a dog, and I am going on the assumption that its original fur was long, based on the 'mane' length. Here is another dog with mange, so you can compare the two. The mystery creature http://a.1asphost.com/Seijun/quanak.jpg A mutt with severe mange http://www.compassionforcamden.org/images/mean/dog_mange1.jpg I took the mystery creature and used Photoshop to give it fur, just to see what it might have looked like, here are my results.. http://a.1asphost.com/Seijun/furred2.JPG http://a.1asphost.com/Seijun/furred3.JPG (a lighter version of the above picture) ~Seij
the pic's dpn't come out clear on my computer but at first i thought it was a mangy dingo. cerrenity where in jersey do you live? i live in jersey and i never heard about letting animals escape from a zoo. all i ever heard about was the lady in jackson having one of her tigers get loose and it got killed.
That's pretty interesting. I wish I knew how to do that kind of thing with the computer. I does look it could be some kind of dog, after you put the hair on it. But what??? I can't even think of a mix that would have that kind of body contour. Of course, I am no expert either. I hope they don't kill it. They say it's even friendly with the cats! I just hope nothing bad happens to either than animal, whatever it is, the people, or their pets.
It's almost hard to imagine any mutt being that ugly, but I have seen mutts before that were as ugly and strange looking as the mystery creature. One was a mutt who had a Greyhound body, the head of a "Labradoodle", and long, curly, grey/blonde fur. Vey strange looking in deed.. ~Seij
LOL Wendy, I live in south texas and we had a "goatman" here when I was in high school. I'm sure it was supposed to keep us out of trouble, but you know teenagers, we went looking. Never did find anything...gee, I wonder why. Thanks for bringing up those memories, I needed a good laugh this morning.
Siejun, wonderful, painstaking work! Thanks for sharing with us. I think the thing that's throwing me off is the size of the head compared to the body, the leg length (remember the height when it was drinking out of the trough?) and the neck length and shape. Sort of likeone of God's most humorous critter's the duck billed platypus~ the pieces and parts don't seem to "go together"~grin
I updated one of the Photoshoped pictures, giving the creature more of the arched back like it had in the original picture, and lightening the shadow on the muzzle to help cut out some of the feline-like appearance. http://a.1asphost.com/Seijun/furred4.JPG Yeah, the proportions do seem off, but if it is a mutt, it wouldn't really matter. Mutts can come in any shape or size. On Petfinder there is a rottie/pug mix that is COMPLETELY out of proportion. It has the bulky rott body, but it has a small and very pug-like head. ~Seij
Gina, Our "goatman" got around didn't he? Mine was from when I was in high school too. Many moons ago. It must have been a trick like you said to keep us out of the woods and off those dark lonely "make-out" country roads. I went looking for him too, many times with a boy in a car down a dark country road at night. Didn't really work for keeping us out of trouble did it? Just seems to have encouraged it. LOL
thanks seij for the clearer pictures. it is one strange looking animal. i wonder if someone is going to try and catch it now and try to figure out what it could be. hopefully they will just leave it alone as it doesn't seem to be bothering anyone. cerrenity , never heard of those two towns, prolly why i never heard about the zoo's either. do you remember the story about the tiger woman in jackson? if i remember right she had to get rid of all her tigers. just wonderin if she ever did.
oh yea, Seijun...very good job. Especially with that last picture, it seems like there's something in the back of my mind that I've seen somewhere, tv, a zoo, I don't know, but it's starting to seem a little familiar. You must be a computer whiz!
No, not really a computer wiz.. That is only my second attempt at seriously altering a real photograph on Photoshop with the intent of the end result still looking real. I was very surprised that it turned out as well as it did. ~Seij
Gina, No, I'm not from Corpus Christi, but guess what. My stepson is. He is here visiting us right now and will be going home next week. Weird, huh? His mom is a big dog person. Maybe you even know her.
