I have a two year old Am Pit. He is has a nasty rash and welts all over his tummy and under his right leg. I took him to the vet a few weeks ago and paid $100 for the vet to glance at him and say that he has an allergy to flea saliva (and his so called hearing test consistied of the vet sqeaking a horn behind my dogs head and saying 'oh yeah, he is probably deaf). Any how, he doesn't have many fleas! I put advantage after we came home from the vet and I flea comb him every day!! He is flea free! So what else could be wrong with him? I was thinking food allergies, but I dont have enogh money to have a vet pretend to look at my dog. Any sugguestions?
I have a pit mix with what sounds like this same rash. I took him to the vet and they say its just a skin allergy. They said that pit's are prone to skin issues. They gave him some anti biotics to make sure it wasn't infected and gave him a shot of cortisone to stop the itch. the only problem is, is that you will probably have to get your dog a shot every month in the summer and every other month in the winter. Hope this helps.
