I spent all spring and summer housebreaking my Female dog ( fixed)Maggie is a Chihuahua Mix. I have another dog a pug and Maggie certainly seemed to have the housebreaking down with just a couple of accidents during the summer. Now she just simply goes in the house. Yes, it is colder outside but I do not leave them out as they are both toy breeds. She goes right in front of me or she will go in another room and just poop and pee. If anyone has a suggestion I would love to hear it. I looked this up of course and yes this breed seems somewhat hard to train but after 8 months she should have the idea. Pad and litter boxes are out of the question. A litter box on the porch would only get wet with rain and snow and it seems ridiculous since the grass is right there. I either have to crate her 98% of the time which seems cruel or give her up since every second that she is not crated is spent checking on where she is or has been. If I turn my back I then have to start searching every room. Sitting and relaxing is out of the questions since I have to let her out every 30 min, and she still goes inside. Basically trying to get anything done is impossible. She spent 2 months with a trainer and as long as food is involved she listens. This is part of the problem since I cannot give her treats since this cuts her hold time to about 15 min. Help is needed or she has to go.I hate to do that but my options and our families patience is wearing thinnot to mention the cost of carpet cleaning. I would appreciate any suggestions.
OH my I read you story and I am having the same exact problem except my chi is going to be 3 yo!!!!! I could have written your article. I have tried many techniques only to find it is a short term fix. She goes right back to the same behavior. I am interested in finding a solution also, if I hear anything I will get back to you as soon as I can. The bigger issue for me is I live with my sister and her family. so my time limit is short on finding a solution. GOOD LUCK
that's my baby... all 4.5 lbs of her. she will be 3 in september
