My 6 month old Cavalier KC Spaniel LOVES his stuffed animal type toys....he loves to chew on the tail, nose, and ears. Anything that sticks off of the toy. My problem is that he will have the stuffing pulled out in about 10 min. and I then have to take it away from him or else he'll eat the stuffing! He loves his "babies", I can tell they are a comfort to him, but any ideas on something I can give him that will last longer then 30 minutes?? I go through about 8 "babies" a week....he looks so sad when I take them away and put them in the trash!
Since it is almost impossible to find fleece toys that are not made in China , I would go to a fabric store and purchase a remnant of fleece fabric and some stuffing and make my own toys. Double stitch or use a overlock stitch for the seams and they will last for a long time. I have done this and it takes about six months for my Bullmastiffs to wear these homemade toys out.
My Mastiff, Stella, does the same thing. She makes short work of the stuffed toys. I buy the hard rubber toys, but she doesn't like them as much. I also buy the bones--the icky ones that are greasy and gross--and she can have those outside. Then there are these white like super hard bones that she likes and can have indoors. They last a long time. But she loves the stuffed toys!! So I do get them and let her tear them up every now and then!
A little dog may chew on a chair leg--but a Mastiff will chew up the whole chair!!
I did not crate her last week when I ran to the grocery and I came home to find the book I was almost finished reading torn to a pile of confetti! Darn! She counter surfs and find things my Pug girls and Chihuahua and little Griff could never reach!! Live and Learn!
Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read!! Groucho Marx
