I use re-usable (or washable) puppy pads bought at PetSmart and made by "Simple Solutions". The top part is too tough for any dog to easily scratch off; the bottom part is weaker and can be ripped open and chewed through. However, I have a solution for preventing the pups from flipping the pad and chewing through the back side. I purchased (about $25) a tray that would sit under a clothes washing machine from Home Depot. Then I bought 4 "sea horse clamps" and I clamp the large size pad (30 x 32 inches) to the tray at 4 corners. It stays taught. The pups cannot flip it, and they cannot get to the underside of the pad to chew through it. Foiled! I have tried a lot of different machinations before I came up with this one, but I have been doing it for about 4 weeks now and it seems to work. Good luck.
Does she get aggressive when you take it away? If so, its because she has deemed it as HERS. She may be aggressive also with her food or other toys. You need to show her that you are the giver and not the 'taker awayer'-let me know if you want more help in that area. http://mixle.com/organa-cleanse-review.html
I found this forum because my puppy does the same thing. If he has to go potty and I am with him commanding him to "go potty" he does it. But if he doesn't have to go potty he starts eating the pad (until I promptly take it away). What confuses me about some of your replies is that you are wondering why we are using wee wee pads. If your puppy is not fully vaccinated he or she should not go outside AT ALL. Your puppy can catch something from squirrel or bird urine even if other possibly un-vaccinated dogs have not been in the area your dog is sniffing. I do not have another choice. I have to use the pads. I am crate training him but when he comes out the only place for him to go is on the pad.
We had placed the pee pad in a cat litter pan, then, (after she would drag the pad across her playpen,) we decided to get a pad holder, from PETCO. (She started eating the pad when we got the holder... does that have anything to do with it, maybe??)
I had the same problem with my yorkie. I found an alternative when I'm at work. I bought a grass tray. It has a bottom tray(like a boot tray) then another hard plastic tray that clips into bottom tray, it has holes in it, and top layer is fake grass. It also is similar looking to outside grass thus not so confusing. My dog is house trained and goes outside but I have this down when at work, 9 hrs, till I'm back home. I live in an apartment and started using it on my porch in the winter when my pup was only 2-3 months, then with the pad shredding decided to bring it inside to spare bathroom, when I'm at work, with a gate up, does the trick!
